Radeon 7950 in MacOS 10.14.1
I'm running a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2015 15" with a Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box and an old Sapphire 7950 while I wait for a good price on an rx 580.
Before running purge wrangler the GPU showed up under System Report but just as 'Display' and 'External GPU' with a device ID of '0x679a' with no other info about it.
Now after disconnecting the GPU, running Purge Wrangler, rebooting, and connecting the GPU again it doesn't show anywhere with just the breakaway box showing under thunderbolt in System Report.
Has anyone else successfully got a 7950 (r9 280) running on 10.14?
@_matthew That specific GPU might need it's device ID in the specific kext of the same architecture. There are many such exceptions with AMD cards on macOS so hard to maintain.
I'm not 100% sure if I'm looking at the right place but I had a look in the "AMDLegacySupport.kext" that's installed by purge wrangler and the device ID for the 7950 (0x679a) appears in there three times
Did you solve your problem later? Mine is the public version of amd radeon hd7950 3gb, mbp2012mid, and the connected egpu cannot be displayed correctly in the system. There is no difference between connected and unconnected. Under "About Mac" Hardware-Thunderbolt-
