@joevt

Yes, "AMD related stuff" sounds like AMD Freesync. It becomes activated when game mode is on it says in the manual, it EDID switches also when game mode is on. That seams correct then.

I can try to look into this the next week. I'm on travel now.

But I did talk with Samsung, and they say that the Q800T should support 8k@60hz. Below some screen dumps from the e-manual. They confirm there is no regional limitation on my model.  They have noted this issue internally though, and are looking into the matter and will hopefully reply.  Manual: https://www.samsung.com/levant/support/model/QA75Q800TAUXTW/#downloads

Here is a guy that seams to have been able to get 8K on Windows:

@fran_serrano, if you want to use Bootcamp with the RX 6700 XT you can downgrade to Windows 10 , Version 1903 - 19H1 (Build 18362.30). That should fix the Error 12 you get. Too Bad is an old build but at the moment I think it's the best to be done. (I myslef haven't found another way).

Greetings!

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@carauz90, thanks a lot. Unfortunately, I cannot find that iso to download from anywhere, anymore. :O(

I will wait for the 11.4 beta 4 or beta 5 hoping for the driver to come in.

Cheers

You could try this script or search for a few other options on how to download older Windows 10 ISO.

Or just use the pci.sys fix with other versions. Though I can't recall how new of a version I was able to get it working with. The pci.sys file is linked somewhere in the big thread about it.

@joevt,

could it be possible to set up a custom resolution as Samsung 8K TVs accept? As there are no 8k resolutions that is native in SwitchResX, a custom resolution could maybe be:

7680x4320 @ 60 hz with pix clock 2376 mhz, horizontal frequency 264khz, with total pixels horizontal 9000 and vertical 4400. This is according to Samsung manuals and the CTA-861-G standard for HDMI 2.1. See attachment.

But SwitchResX returns a status "not activated - invalid?".

(I installed latest MacOS 11.4 RC, that didn't change anything.)

@arvin, It doesn't matter if the Samsung TV accepts a timing or not. First you have to make the OS accept the timing. I suppose someone could try patching the driver. But before that, start with a timing that fits within the DisplayPort 1.4 non-DSC bandwidth (1080 MHz 8bpc RGB), such as 8K 30Hz (CVT-RB: 1030 MHz). Try this with the CAC-1085 adapter (maybe macOS assumes HDMI has a limit).

Complain to Apple using the Feedback Assistant.

Mac mini (2018), Mac Pro (Early 2008), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), GA-Z170X-Gaming 7, Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5, Sonnet Echo Express III-D, Trebleet Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe M.2 case

@nate88, I was finally able to run my card via Windows Bootcamp with Windows 10 build 1903. Now hoping to get support in 11.5. 11.4 RC installed and still no luck.

@arvin,

Thanks for sharing all the data with us!

I've been wondering, I currently have a 5700xt and was thinking about upgrading to the 6800xt (whenever its available without scalpers gouging me), given your experience with the card, would you say its worth upgrade? I don't know if you had the 5700xt for comparison, but was thinking, generally would you say its a worthwhile upgrade?

Thanks in advance!
