I can run some benchmarks and post if you guys are interested. Very stable so far.
Hi yes plz can I order one restart and one Geekbench Compute to go?
A donut and a hot chocolote for me, pleeease.
2018 15" MBP & 2015 13" MBP connected to RTX2080Ti GTX1080Ti GTX1080 Vega56 RX580 R9-290 GTX680
2018 15" MacBook Pro (RP560X) [8th,6C,H] + RX 5700 XT @ 32Gbps-TB3 (ASUS XG Station Pro) + Win10 & macOS 10.15.4 // Navi vs Radeon VII vs GTX 1080 Ti [build link]
I've just been putting it through its paces. I have a 2018 MBP 15" + Razer Core X. Seems very stable. I've been running PS + LR, playing various games that I have in Steam. MacOS functions like quicklook haven't cased any crashes either.
The benchmarks are...underwhelming.
Geekbench 4 got me 147080 (OpenCL), 135667 (Metal).
Valley scored :1626 (38.9 FPS, 27.0-53.5 min/max)
(1440p, x8 AA, Ultra)
However, the card also didn't seem like it was working very hard, so in my very unprofessional opinion, maybe the drivers aren't using the card very efficiently at this point? Geekbench 4 average scores on the main OpenCL chart pin the RVII over 200,00.
MBP 2018 15" - Razer Core X - Radeon RX580 (Radeon VII hopeful)
It works! Just installed Mac OS X 10.14.5 beta 1. The Radeon VII is recognized and does work.
I have an internal iGPU Radeon Pro Vega 64 = geekbench metal is about 179K
The eGPU with Radeon VII is geekbench metal about = 147K
The eGPU with RX Vega 64 is geekbench metal about = 141K
So, the overhead of the thunderbolt 3 seems substantial. I've only just started testing. But, I'm so happy that 10.14.5 now seems to support the Radeon VII. Hopefully future updates will further optimize it.
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
.Here's Unigen Valley benchmarks. Radeon VII seems to have an advantage here. The Radeon Pro Vega 64 is the score of 2392 and the Radeon VII is the score of 3062.

.The official 10.14.4 has been released and maybe you should try it out again.
Computer: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Intel, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
eGPU: Razer Core X with Radeon 5700xt
Not supported on 10.14.4 but it probably will be on 10.14.5. The beta worked for me as well without any driver / kext hacks. Performance on Sonnet box was very good / comparable to above. 90+FPS Valley at 1080p (4x AA not 8x all else maxed). Compute benchmarks were impressive as well. Not 2080 Ti impressive, but good enough to not waste your time with other AMD cards if you're in the market for a new one.
Bring peace to your computing life: stop trying to understand Apple.
