Rumored M2 MacBook Pro with additional TB ports this Summer
(Seems like this was put out to counter rumors of Mac product delays.)
Enjoy today’s Bloomberg and MacRumors fresh serving of speculation 😅
“Apple plans to launch new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with an improved iteration of the M1 chip as early as this summer, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The new chip is said to include a 10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, with 16-core or 32-core GPU options.
Gurman said the next-generation Apple silicon chip will also support up to 64GB of memory compared to the current maximum of 16GB. This would be in line with the current Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro, which is available with up to 64GB of RAM. The new chip is also said to support additional Thunderbolt ports for expanded connectivity.
As mentioned in his previous reporting, Gurman said the new MacBook Pro models will feature a redesigned chassis with the return of more ports, including an HDMI port, SD card slot, and a MagSafe magnetic charging cable.
Gurman said Apple is also working on a revamped MacBook Air for as early as the end of the year, in addition to an all-new Mac Pro, a higher-end Mac mini with four Thunderbolt ports, and a replacement for the Intel-based 27-inch iMac.“
MacRumors and Steve Moser briefly had another rumor on their pages (it has since been deleted).
Apparently Big Sur 11.4 RC includes references to a new Mac Model - an Intel i9 based Mac Pro.
Anybody else find this reference in 11.4 RC?
Oh gosh, this sounds good.
I actually wonder if it won't be something like introduction/preview at WWDC and then shipping later in the year. That would make sense, and they've done it in the past.
I'm most interested in that new mini. I wonder, given the i9 thing, if the mini won't stay dual platform for a while longer than the rest of the line, as a solution for people who can't make the transition as soon. Something like a super-mini could fill that gap quite well with an update to the Intel model and then a semi-pro version of the current M-series.
@cgwerks, Yes, my “source” confirms Apple has new M2 chip microarchitecture to intro at WWDC. 😎
Agree Mac Mini users would appreciate Apple continuing the Intel model option.
I find the “i9 MacPro” published-then-retracted rumor fun. I’d enjoy that story’s revival. 😄
Well I was hoping for the LAST Intel Macbook Pro. i9 11th gen, GREAT thermals, Bluetooth 5, Wifi 6e, no Touchbar, better camera, Face ID and aditional ports (3 Thunderbolts + HDMI + 2 USB A). One can only dream.
Luke Miani and his source Alexiander have a fun rumor going.
