Hello Everyone!

I have a 2019 13-inch Macbook Pro Base model, I've paired it up with an RX 580 in a sonnet efx Breakaway Box 550. It works great on Mac OS Catalina. I have a boot camp partition. On a hotplug after booting in, I get an Error Code 12. I've gone through the build guides for the model on here, and I read that disabling the Bluetooth PCI-E and Facetime HD camera should allow ample resources free to allow Hot plugging to work. This has not solved my issue. I'm currently on Windows 10 1903, OS Build 18362.30

Would I have to work around by enabling the i-GPU while booting into Windows to fix this? Any help I can get is much appreciated.

Thanks!

@karthik_subramanian Hot-plug an AMD eGPU in Boot Camp would typically result in error 12. Try timed hot-plug by connecting the eGPU to your MacBook Pro as soon as the Windows logo appears.

@karthik_subramanian, I have almost identical setup as you (MBP 13 2019 with Touchbar, Sonnet Box 550, RX580). Installed Windows 10 1903, OS Build 18362.30, but still have Code 12 when hot-plug the eGPU.

Please advice what exactly you did to make it work.

Thank you in advance.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@maksym_panchuk, Hi

Hotplug is a bit hit and miss for me, I had to time it with the windows logo at boot up to get it to work. I now use an external monitor. It works flawlessly. Make sure to

1. disable PCI-E express root port #3 in device manager, Find it under system devices

2. disable the camera in device manager.

3. ReBoot with Egpu connected to Macbook and monitor. I always use the thunderbolt port closest to the screen.

You can enable all these ports after the computer has rebooted. And it will function normally. Make sure to disable them before reboot.
