RX580 vs RX 5700XT with current drivers?

It seems like, from what I've read, the Navi drivers are bit off at the moment in Catalina, which is why the RX 5700XT doesn't do that well on benchmarks.  In fact it benchmarks similar to the RX 580.  Money isn't the real issue - I can afford the RX 5700XT but I'm wondering if I should start with an RX 580 until the drivers get sorted?

Nah, bruh.

The software you’re running makes more of a difference.

Here's a good example:

The most recent Blender build 2.81a for Mac OS + Radeon Pro Renderer (For Metal) running on Catalina.

Time needed to render the BMW example scene using only the GPU (or an eGPU):

Mac Pro 2020 and internal AMD RX 5700XT: 40 seconds (per Barefeats) - Fastest.

Mac Pro 2020 and internal AMD Radeon Pro Vega II: 41 seconds (per Barefeats)  - Fast but costs $2,400.

Mac Pro 2020 and internal AMD Radeon VII : 43 seconds (per Barefeats) - Also fast because it's basically the same card as the Pro Vega II.

Mac Pro 2020 and internal AMD RX580: 73 seconds (per Barefeats) - Is that the same shirt you've been wearing since 2017??? 😅

My Mac Mini 2018 and PowerColor RX 5700XT in a PowerColor Gaming Station: 44 seconds - 90% as fast as a 5700XT in a Mac Pro PCIe slot.

Yes it seems that Catalina Navi drivers have som issue but in many apps performance are much more faster than RX 580
I hope 10.15.3 fixes some bugs eGPU related and increase performance

Are you on a 10.15.3 Catalina beta? I still have issues with my Mac Mini 2018\Sonnet Breakaway 550\Nitro+RX5700XT, it just won’t start. Worked for a while on 10.15.1 then stopped.

My 5700XT works great on 10.15.1.

Maya, Blender, Sketch-Up, and AutoCAD all run fast.

Also, 2D programs like Bluebeam and Acrobat Pro are quick and responsive when working with huge files.
