Hello,

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" from work that runs under macOS Mojave 10.14.6 and I am considering adding an eGPU to my docking station setup to use UNREAL Engine.

I have looked at the Razer Core X and Core X Chroma.

I am wondering what is the best card option for my set up: a SAPPHIRE Radeon RX Vega 64, a XFX AMD Radeon VII or a PowerColor Radeon 5700XT ?

Also, I have an LG 4K monitor.

Thanks in advance.

The Radeon VII would be a nice card to have, if the issue with the fans remaining on during sleep was ever resolved in Mojave. I don't know where that stands at the moment.

Also, the next-gen graphic cards arriving this fall should be worth the wait.

if current cards in the market are dealing with issues ona  level that could be fixed on a driver release hasn't been satisfied, i bet the newer cards will have even more issues. egpus are an afterthought for the manufacturers and they're not prioritizing the issues we're dealing with:/

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Oh, that’s right. I remember you having success pairing the Radeon VII with the Mini.

Glad to hear your setup has remained working without the fan issue.

Hi,

If I am correct the RX5700XT will not be recognized under Mojave, Catalina 15.1+ is said to be required to have drivers for the latest RDNA cards.

Cheers,

Manu
