[Solved] [SCRIPT] PurgeWrangler: AMD + NVIDIA eGPUs for all Thunderbolt Macs
I have one question. When in recovery mode I typed
csrutil authenticated-root disable
I got "invalid command" alert even though
worked fine. Is that normal? Should I ignore it and go to the next step of installation?
@kensei, please read wiki carefully. The first command is for macOS 11 only.
@mac_editor, Finally got around to boot into macOS Recovery on my 2013 Mac Pro. Instead of Restore from Time Machine option, I tried Disk Utility repair first. Reading the progress information, I saw there was Purge Wrangler snapshot. That fixed the boot hang for my 6,1. I'm updating to Developer Beta 2 now and will test the latest version of your script momentarily. Thank you!
@itsage, looking forward to how it goes for you👍
Recent updates to the script SHOULD have addressed the main problems (some older posts in this thread) and on my end I’ve had positive results.
@mac_editor, It's up and running! I encountered the boot hang issue again right after the script installation. Booted into macOS Recovery to fix. Once booted back into normal mode I could hot-plug the eGPU and all is well. Thank you!

Agh, this is what I've been trying to fix. Not sure what's the cause. This happens the first time a new Big Sur (update/fresh) system is patched. After that its ok until next update. Hopefully its an issue with kmutil (as in beta notes) and gets resolved in later betas.
i saw in YouTube that out of the blue the mbp 16 with 5500m the gpu allocation has been changed to 8x pci lanes from 16x have you seen or heard of it?
min addition when I got my mbp13 2020 it run a ciner20 of 2116 and held 100-200 MHz higher clock speeds in 10.15.4 vs 10.15.5. Have you guys noticed any difference. My 10.15.4 test was done out of the box while the 10.15.5 after I restored my back up so not a direct comparison.

@tsakal, The Thunderbolt 3 15-in and 16-in MacBook Pros have always had an 8 PCIe lane connection to the dGPU. Here are AIDA64 screencaps of 2016 15-in MacBook Pro and 2019 16-in MacBook Pro. Apple had to reserve the other lanes (two x4) to the Thunderbolt 3 controllers.
I can only encourage all people here to donate even a small sum to the script creators for such a tremendous work 😀
Could you please tell me what should be model steps if I wanted to upgrade to Big Sur?
