I had the same problem with my macmini 2012.  None of the scripts here worked, but I managed to restore the kext from 10.13.3 and it's working fine.  Did the new version of the script work ?

It did according to the fellow who pointed out an improvement and tested this. I have not tested it personally on a Mac mini 2012, but I can say that the method for checking thunderbolt is more reliable now.

It works on my Mac Mini 2012 when I tested it.

(I provided the suggested patch to mac_editor)

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Okay thanks, I haven't actually set up an eGPU yet, should I run this code before I buy the stuff or after. Also do you know where I can get direct help for setting up an eGPU? There is no build guide for my 2012 21.5 inch iMac

Cheers!

Your mac has a discrete NVIDIA GPU if I'm not mistaken. AMD eGPUs won't work on iMacs with NVIDIA dGPUs (and no iGPUs) on High Sierra. You can use Sierra though.

Thank you for your hard work. Do I need to run a newer version of the script if the earlier version fixed the problem?
And I suppose since we're sharing...

Not really, but if you were using some v1.x.x I highly recommend 2.0.2 because it has significant improvements in handling macOS updates and backups.

@mac_editor The 2.0.2 looks rather promising from the quick glance I looked at the source code and initial running from version 1.1.1 to version 2.0.0 now there is already version 2.0.2 which seems to add some nice changes from what the release notes state. I don't really have a lot of time right now to do some code review of it on GitHub but overall it is looking a lot safer so far (all be it the -f forceful flag is always dangerous if used carelessly hence the warning). It detected my 1.1.1 install no problem and seemed to rebuild the necessary state for backups and eGPU support. no issues so far. Patch has remained stable only thing left to do is make it as simple as can be for everyone to benefit and I think version 2.0.2 is practically there if not already there. If I get more free time I will look through whatever the version is at that time and give a more comprehensive update.

Thank you to all the people who are working hard on this script it looks like it is coming together very nicely Smile
