Catalina eGPU is a complete trainwreck for me (Mini 2018 + RX 570). I can still not boot with eGPU attached. And now (after updating to 10.15.2) the TV app stopped working - trailers work fine but protected materials stop playing after about a second.

The TV problem is a log in bug. Deactivate, log out, then log in and activate again. It should work now.

eGPU boot bug is reported by many.

10.15.2 seems like a very bad update for eGPU. Let’s hope 10.15.3 come out soon, BTW beta is available

Common problem, usi Mac mini HDMI for boot, then plug eGPU

No deauthorizations, authorizations, logging in and out solves the problem for me. The TV app works with iGPU but fails to work with eGPU. This might be a content protection related issue that affects eGPUs.

Catalina eGPU support is simply substandard and things got even worse since the initial release. Apple seems to have serious difficulties solving its problems. 🙁

I’m on a MacBook Pro 2017 nTB model, with an Akitio Node enclosure and a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 580. Initially worked fine on macOS 10.15.2 for an hour or so, with the eGPU connected to my display through DP. Unfortunately after that it started crashing my games and is now causing full on kernel panics anytime I plug the eGPU in to the MacBook Pro. Have reset everything as well as reinstalled macOS but nothing seems to work so far.

Did you try removing and reinstalling the card and the 8-pin power connectors to the card?

I have, multiple times (I’m David). The RX 580 has a 6+8 pin, and I’m using 2*2+6 connector, so a two-pin is left sitting without anything in it. Is that okay?

Yes, but it sounds like a defective card, or enclosure, unfortunately. 🙄

Definitely sucks! I’ve now bought an RX590 to replace it and it works beautifully so far (fingers crossed it doesn’t crash). Only problem is that the RX590 only shows up on the external display and not on my Mac when I don’t have the external display connected
