I've read recently that we're supposed to do updates with the eGPU disconnected, which I didn't know. 10.15.2 was definitely a step back from 10.15.1, and 10.15.3 didn't seem to fix anything, but I didn't disconnect the eGPU during any updates, so who knows? Unless the updates are known to fix other issues you're having, I'd probably hold off.

ya im hesitant... the last updates I did with the eGPU connected and it crashed my system, I had no video out even with built in HDMI.

I back u to a slow rotary HD so it took a day to restore my system. I can't risk it until I see some more evidence that it is stable.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@ted_dawson For a headless Mac, it's best to disconnect the eGPU during system update. My 2013 Mac Pro firmware was corrupted during 10.15 beta. It was not a fun experience [link].

Damm, I didn't know that i always have updated my mac mini 2018 with the eGPU connected, won't do that anymore, maybe that is the reason i'm not able to select boot partitions with the eGPU connected and filevault disabled.

Anybody on the Catalina 10.15.4 beta? How was the experience and can you guys see the boot screen/startup disk picker while the display output is from the eGPU?

I have not, I'm still on 15.1 and limping along. I'm waiting to hear if 15.3 is any better?

I've finally upgraded to Catalina. (A fresh install actually, not an upgrade) and I've been using  my MacBook Pro with the Gaming Box connected to it for 3 days straight doing development work, and migrating photo libraries in the background.

It's been really stable, no disconnection, glitches of anything, and the VRAM is used, it fills up to 99% from caching stuff (iTerm2, IntelliJ IDEA, Parallels Desktop, Apple Photos etc)

I have also go sleep & wake from sleep back, which wasn't working on the last version of Mojave I was running. That might just be the clean install though.

10.15.2 seems like a very bad update for eGPU. Let’s hope 10.15.3 come out soon, BTW beta is available

10.15.3 did not solve anything for me.

Everyone with this issue should contact Apple, use feedback page or beta report. I have many fiends with this problem on Mac mini 2018, it is a nightmare

Changing the cable solved the issue for me, be wary of third party Thunderbolt cables that promise 40 GB/s speeds.
