Indeed. In one link it was mentioned that the Genius Bar diagnosed it as a hardware issue unrelated to the software update. As with your scenario, we guesstimated a lot of possibilities, so diagnosis in this situation is very difficult, compounding the problem. Of note is the fact that this bricking is occurring on older macs (pre-2015). After Yosemite, all odd-numbered releases have been problematic QA-wise IMO.

Wow... this is just horrendous...  My 2016" MBP was the first one that I updated, no issue there.  I think I updated my wife's 2013 Macbook Air after that and that too didn't have any issues.  My Mac mini is the only one that is still on Mojave, and I guess I'll keep it that way...  I'll double check the MBA again, but I do believe I did update.

Stay vigilant all.

That’s exactly what I had - I just went into recovery mode, startup disk security and changed it back to full (had switched it off previously).

That seemed to sort it out when booting. However I’ve noticed now that more often then not when I go to “safely unplug the gpu” using the system tray icon the system will hang and reboot...

Ok thanks I’ll try that - are you on Catalina or Mojave? I heard this affects the RX400 and 500 series I was thinking of getting a Vega 56 if it would solve the issue

I wouldn't upgrade. It's taking Nvidia a million years to even get to drivers to Mojave, if they ever. It's going to be lightyears until they get around to Catalina. Apple just keeps dropping the ball...

@joe Nvidia has made the drivers but Apple has blocked them from releasing them, as far as I know. No balls are being dropped, it’s two companies not getting along.

Did anybody noticed that the eGPU no longer sleeps while the mac pretends to sleep? I am with MacBook Pro 2015 TB2 and Razer Core X with AMD VEGA 56.

Current Nvidia macOS drivers don't support dual cable displays except the Dell UP2715K. Have the drivers that Nvidia is sitting on been fixed to work with other similar displays such as the LG UltraFine 5K and Apple Pro Display XDR?
