Vega 64 Not working natively MacOS
brand new to this. I had the card working great in Mac OS, then got it going in windows. Worked for about 5 hours and it crashed and then error 12'd itself, couldn't resolve that. However now the setup doesn't work in Mac OS either ! If I plug it in it shows in the menubar as "No EGPU detected" or similar then disappears. Under Graphics/Displays it shows as
"Display: External GPU"
the Razer Core x also shows under thunderbolt
I had issues with my eGPU with one specific port in macOS - assume you have tried them all?
My fix was a simple SMC reset - worth giving a bash?
Thanks for the tips mate, unfortunately a SMC reset and PRAM reset has not fixed it. I have also tried all ports.
in MacOS it also causes a strange issue where the fans of the MacBook start spinning up to approximately 80-100%.
https://imgur.com/a/sO59itD this is what I get when I plug it in. Very frustrating as all was working, is there a chance I have broken the cards drivers or the card has just failed?
@downunder I don't want to be that guy who recommends things without any real knowledge to back them up, but...
W10 and macOS are totally independent, so I would guess its just coincidence neither work - although they do share an EFI partition (I think?) so maybe something got corrupted there?
If I was in your shoes I would also guess its either driver or hardware related, with drivers being the more likely at this stage.
You need to get it working in one OS to prove its software not hardware.
I would try reinstalling macOS via recovery - this won't touch any personal info/files fear not, and/or try to set up again in windows, even if its not for use, DDU current drivers in W10 and reinstall just so you get the card working once at least (for now).
Hopefully there is someone who has experienced the same who can shed some light rather than just randomly guess (as I have done).
Worked for about 5 hours and it crashed and then error 12'd itself
Can you verify if the GPU is still functional as normal on another system? Optimally in a PC’s PCIe slot or at least a different Mac via eGPU.
Hey everyone, thanks for the tips.
Over the weekend I got another chance to have a play around, and for some reason 2 reboots into MacOS in a row with the device plugged in fixed the issue, it is now recognised and works correctly! Hot plugging still doesn't work but that's a non-issue at this stage, albeit strange as it is fully intended to.
