In addition to my previous message, I received my eGPU box (Razer Core v2) and it works out of the box with my MacBook Pro retina (mid-2015) and a Thunderbolt 2 - 3 adapter.

I’m using last build (no dev or public beta) of High Sierra.

Hi,

I've got the same MB like you (Mid 2015 - internal Radeon 370 GFX) and I'm going to get the following setup early next week:

- AORUS GTX 1070 Gaming Box (GTX 1070)

- TB3 -> TB2 adapter (original Apple)

- TB 2 Cable (original Apple)

- Headless Ghost Adapter

My Macbook Pro is currently on the officially released High Sierra OS.

You just said that it worked "out of the box" for you.  There are a couple of things I would like to know:

  • Did you install any kind of script (or anything else) in order to get it worked or did you just plugin the eGPU and it worked on MacOS?
  • Do you use an external screen or the internal one? (I'm planning to go for the internal one only)
  • If you are on an internal one is there a need for a "headless ghost"?

My target is to be able to play games like WoW or any other semi-actual game (e.g. Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, etc.) on my Macbook Pro running MacOS. (for me it looks like that playing on Bootcamp Windows 10 with switchable graphics it's more a problem like on current MacOS.)

Thanks in advance!

Same problem here:

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), 10.13.3 Beta (17D29a), Apple TB3/TB2 adapter, Apple TB2 cable, Akitio Node, MSI Radeon RX580

Bad glitches under macOS HS (unusable), no problems with Windows 10 Pro

Macbook Pro 2018 w/ Radeon Pro 560X
Akitio Node and RX5700 XT with Windows 10 1903 and macOS 10.14.6

Recent comments relating to MP6,1 don't surprise me. Apple has zero incentive to make the 6,1 work well with eGPU. They are designing a new Mac Pro concept and want people to use that (since it is designed to serve all those who bought and rightly complained about the 6,1 after its dual GPU performance never panned out). There's no way they are interested in giving people an alternative solution that will earn them a relatively tiny margin (whatever the margin on the TB3 adapter is) vs. what they'll earn with the new Mac Pro.

Put simply: they don't want you guys to use eGPU and be happy. They want you to buy a new Mac Pro and be happy. You could also extend this argument to other types of Macs from the last year or two, but it is especially relevant to the 6,1. Smile

Bring peace to your computing life: stop trying to understand Apple.

Today's update to 10.13.3 Beta (17D34a) did not make a difference.

However, the card is not identified as RX 580 but shows as AMD R9xx. Probably the root cause of the problem (no driver support)?

Same here but I tried the 10.13.3b4 and it still doesn't work on TB2 on a 2015 MBP15 (top spec) as a eGPU RX 580 on Mac (glitches) but works perfectly on Windows 10 Pro in bootcamp. I thought it was going to work as the Mac itself is behaving better on the latest beta but it's a total no go on the eGPU.

I do have two TB3-TB2 cables I will try the other one just in case.

I've just posted my implementation guide using 2014 macbook pro with 750M, Mantiz Venus, GTX970. Apple TB2->TB3 cable I'm using seems to be working without issue.

I'm running 10.12.6 on a GT650M 15" MBP using the Apple TB3>TB2 adapter and my Omen won't turn on too

I’m using an Akitio node 3 with thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter in my iMac with High Sierra and I wasn’t having any problems up until this last update. I’m gonna try rolling it back and if that doesn’t work I’m going to go back to Sierra and use the egpu hack which worked flawlessly for over a year.
