Sr man, i just using my mac for work n study n bootcamp for game so thats why  i dont have any apps for testing the performance on mac os. Now i'm strugling in making macbook internal display work in bootcamp, it just work with external display

No problem! Thanks anyway. So for you to get it working on High Sierra, did you just follow the OP's instruction and nothing else?

EDIT**

I ended up creating a small partition under Sierra so I could test High Sierra. I did NOT install the webdrivers with SIP ENABLED, I did not realized and it was DISABLED in my case. Wish I knew what that impacts.

Here are my results:

Screen Shot 2017 11 12 at 5.40.38 PM
Screen Shot 2017 11 12 at 5.40.27 PM
Screen Shot 2017 11 12 at 5.40.12 PM

Could anyone analyse and tell me if everything is okay? I noticed that with @demon151, the internal display is still showing Intel iGPU, while mine shows 1080 for both external and internal. Is that worrisome?

MacOS: 15" Retina Macbook Pro 2015 Iris Pro only
Windows 10: Tornado F5 laptop with discrete GTX 1060
eGPU: GIGABYTE RX 580

I have been working on this for several hours and I'm having no luck.
Here is an album with screenshots of all my relevant information:  https://imgur.com/a/nFiSy

System Specs:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017)
macOS High Sierra 10.13.1 (17B48)
Akitio Node (FW 25.1)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 Windforce OC
External display connected via HDMI

Here is what I did:

1) Clean install to newest version of macOS High Sierra
2) Installed proper Nvidia web driver ( http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/126538/en-us)
3) Disabled SIP in macOS Recovery (csrutil enable --without kext)
4) Installed Nvidia eGPU Support (nvidia-egpu-v2-1013-1.zip)

I tried the Troubleshooting process in the OP and tried to hotplug and coldplug the Akitio node.

The Akitio node is clearly powered on, LED is on, fans are running.
I can see the fans of the GPU spinning when the Akitio node is plugged in.

I've searched for many hours and can't find out any other possible solutions.
I know my specific graphics card is not on the Akitio node supported graphics card list ( https://www.akitio.com/information-center/node-gpu-compatibility/), but it isn't on the incompatible graphics card list.

Does anyone have any ideas?

@Boomer, pls install Windows 10 on the system. Then check if the eGPU is detected when booted up with it the eGPU on as well as hotplugged in Windows. If neither method register the eGPU then engage AKiTiO support for a faulty enclosure.

Hi @Eightarmedpet ,

Are you saying you just followed the steps on the first page and it worked for you? Inc working on your LG 5k? No other set up/steps required?

About the GPU to be recognized, yes. Luckily no problem just by following the steps.

didn’t ever manage to get my 5K powered by the gpu

Maybe you already know, but getting 5k powered directly by the gpu isn't possible here, too. I hope Apple officially implement internal display acceleration like NVIDIA Optimus (It's good enough for me on Windows).

Ohhhh I didn't know that... so even with a 580 card the LG wont be powered? What a bloody pain! Well, I'm sure they'll have it fixed come spring so as long as I can get it working in Windows I can wait...

I tried everything (MBP15" late 2016 with 460 Graphics; LG 32UD99; ZOTAC 1080 AMP Edition; SONNET 550 Box)

with no success. Now I deceided to throw that 1080 into the e-Bay and ordered a VEGA 64 instead .

PLS tell me: how can I completely come back to the state / remove everythung of that installed NVDIa Drivers, CUDA, ... disabeled / enabeled SIP...

or will that changes not affect my future work on my MacBook?

thanks for a short reply

Peter

I was able to get this working with my Atiko thunderbolt 2 and Nvidia 1050ti without running csrutil disable. In fact I can't do that as I run a raid 0 and am unable to create a recovery segment on my drive.

Not only that I was able to get the internal display on my 2012 13" macbook pro without a dongle. Seems every so many reboots it will get into a mode where it works. I am using the latest nvidia driver so its probably because nvidia is playing around with the capability of the driver. It has the ability to function on an egpu in some way. I did no other modifications.

I have successfully tested my egpu set up with this method. Late 2013 mbp with 750m internal GPUs, running a GTx 1060 egpu in a akitio node

however, after installing this package, my startup has become extremely unstable and slow. The apple progress bar moves very slowly or sometimes just starts full but sierra either never starts or takes a good 4-5 min to start. Previous start up times were 5-10 seconds. I am running 10.13.1. After experiencing this the first time I reinstalled high sierra which fixed the start up issue but the issue returned as soon as I installed the egpu nvidia package so it is definitely something to do with this package. The problem persists whether the egpu is plugged in or not

anyone else experience this or have any ideas??

Started up in verbose mode to see what is causing the issue and am seeing the error “kextd stall NVDA-Display-A”

im not too familiar with all this but anyone have an idea on what is causing the issue. Just not being able to boot in to osx now after the install

anyone know what all this means??

You can get access to the terminal to disable it via a macOS installation USB. That's what I had to do on mine, it takes longer to actually get to the right mode but it does the job no problem.
