Hey guys,

I'm soulman and I'm from the North East, United Kingdom (Newcastle). I work in the cloud and networking part of the woods and recently found myself travelling a whole lot more, which to me meant there was little sense in owning a high performance laptop AND a high performance desktop.

A few weeks ago I managed to get hold of an Akitio Node (they're seemingly pretty difficult to track down at times here, even other products in general) and so far it's making a great docking solution for my XPS 15 9560 with the GTX1080 I pinched from my desktop. I'm not looking back at my i7 desktop at all now actually - this is the perfect compromise I think!

My i7 has been repurposed back to the homelab as a file server as a result, and I've configured my desk as such to make a 3 cable solution that's as elegant as a 3 cable solution can get. AC, Thunderbolt and a USB3 hub hidden under the desk that connects my keyboard, mouse and three gigabit USB3 NICs that I'm eventually going to configure for SMB multichannel. When I get a little time to myself I think I'll actually finish setting all the software up and perhaps get a few photos sometime; it's rare that I can keep my desk tidy I have to admit!

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Welcome aboard, @soulman! Your Dell XPS 9560 + AKiTiO Node + GTX 1080 sounds like a nice convertible solution.
