Depends if you have a Thunderbolt 2 or 3 port. Also, I'm assuming your i3 is a dual-core? Do you know what generation it is? How much RAM? That could bottleneck CPU-intensive games.

Also, depends on what games you are wanting to play. Graphic intensive?

I'm new to this as well.

What I would recommend is to look at the minimum requirements on FFXV’s webpage. They also have a benchmarking utility to test if your pc components can meet the demand.

I also would look up YouTube videos on games you would play that people have recorded with your current hardware (or similar) to get an idea.

From my understanding, with an eGPU you can expect a 15-30% decrease in performance from the card as compared to if it were installed internally.

With my eGPU enclosure with Thunderbolt 3, I noticed a significant performance boost that was very comparable to my desktop.

So, it really depends on your configuration and how demanding the games you play are.
