@eightarmedpet I got the RX 5700 GPU on launch day last year (July 7th, 2019). It did not have launch day driver support on macOS.
It's a similar situation with Big Navi. Early reports with testing through eGPU using an RX 6000 card crashed the system.

It's a little difficult to tell because we don't know under what conditions these benchmarks were run and whick SKU they are using.
It LOOKS like it's somewhere in between the 2080Ti and 3080 though. If they price it aggressively I think that will be fine for most people. I'm going to need to see some real comparative data from independent trusted reviewers before I trust any of it. The things I'm really interested in
- What's the TGP?
- How much is it?
- How is the RT performance compared to nVidia, this is going to be more important to me for this gen.
- Do they have anything REAL to compete with DLSS 2.x/3.x, it's gaining steam and is of massive benefit (I know about FidelityFX but DLSS has all the dev support right now..)
- Can they keep their drivers stable
I still have more general positive thoughts about nVidia's products overall, but I'm excited to see more details about what RDNA2 is going to bring to the table. If EVGA sends me a 3080 notice it's going to be hard to say no though, I signed up for their notifications a long time ago and they moved to a queue model for buying cards, so we'll see.

The pre-announcement rumors continue to sound promising.
One of the top RX 6800 series cards allegedly scores higher than the RTX 3080 in Firestrike and Timespy benchmarks at 4K.
AMD raytracing will not be faster than Nvidia Ampere though. Not unless the 6900 series card has additional raytracing power we haven’t heard about.
@mini-i5, yep, looking forward to next week - think an Apple event may be announced too (to unveil ARM Macs) for mid November.
Hopefully we will have answers to what Apple plans for Windows on Macs, as itsage mentioned, its unlikely we will have Big Navi drivers in macOS for a good couple of releases yet despite references to said drivers being spotted.

Last I heard they aren’t planning on booting other OSes similar to things on iPhone/iPad, unless that changes. On another note though, Microsoft is working on x64 emulation on ARM so that’s nice (Rosetta equivalent). Currently Windows in ARM can only emulate 32-bit Intel apps. Maybe something might change in the future.

AMD dropped a brief RDNA 2 ray-tracing teaser demo. 🍬 👀
So I take it nobody has one yet? I have a backorder and deposit. With any luck I will have one within a week.
@lwf,
Nope, no one has a 6800 right now cuz we can’t have nice things in 2020.

There’s another exciting paper launch this week for the partner cards(!)
I am looking forward to the new designs and specs. I’m even a bit intrigued by this iteration of the Red Devil. 👹
With the headroom the 6800 XT has for overclocking, I don’t mind waiting for Mac OS drivers in Big Sur, and Cyberpunk 2077 on PC.
Allows us time to compare the various models, and pick the best one for a dual Mac / Windows system.
