There's a couple of reports on some forums and reddit that people tried a 6800 XT with a Mac and the driver isn't ready. Nothing happens.

Yeah, I wouldn’t expect usable drivers in Beta versions of Big Sur 11.1

We’ll be waiting until 11.1 is finalized (he says, writing as if it’s 2019).

Really, since there’s no explanation from AMD for the absence of RX 6800 product - Big Sur 11.2 or 11.3 make just as much sense.

The 6800 XT AIB card “launch” allegedly happened this morning.

But it was another Paper Launch - or Vapor Launch - with no cards available on Newegg, Amazon, or Best Buy here in the States.

Microcenter tweeted they would have zero cards a few minutes in advance of 6 AM. People crashed their website anyway, lol.

I don't understand why there is no communication. What a PR disaster.

I think we can assume AMD’s silence is due to manufacturing failure(s).

It’s likely TSMC have struggled producing chiplets with more than the 36 RDNA 2 CU found in the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

More likely that TSMC is at capacity on 7nm and they allocated more to Ryzen and next gen consoles than their GPUs. Ryzen is way more profitable as it uses far less wafer area and yields are probably better.

I have good news guys,

As you can read in Apple's release notes for Big Sur 11.4, we'll get support for AMD 6000 series (Big Navy)

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/macos-release-notes/macos-big-sur-11_4-beta-release-notes

So, probably in a couple months this problem will be gone. I got a RX 6700XT and I'm waiting in the same situation.

Do any of you know if on 11.3 at least we get our external monitor being working (even if it's without hardware acceleration?

Cheers,

Fran
