Mac Metal Gaming with RX 5700 XT
Fortnite Battle Royale *****
This game is fun to play and the 5700 XT renders it well. The scenes are bright and colorful. The visual effects and sounds are well done. It's easy to get lost in the experience with a nice display and speakers. A good way to feel like you're outdoors while spending time indoors
Mac Catalina 10.15.4
Resolution set at 3840 x 2160
All other Game Settings on HIGH
FPS steady at 60.
Oceanhorn 2 ***
You were probably wondering if Apple Arcade offers any games with decent visuals. 👀
And the answer is "Yes". That game would be Oceanhorn 2, Knights of the Lost Realm.
The graphics were created with the Unreal Engine. They are a step above anything else on Arcade.
This is another good escape-to-the-outdoors title. The visuals are a match for Fortnite's bright colors. The scenes include beautiful rendered skies, water, and clouds. Oceanhorn 2 will definitely make good use of your eGPU setup.
I would rate the game higher - but the music track and the game challenges are very simple. Especially compared to Fortnite.
Still, it's a good one to play for free on a 30-day trial basis.
There is no FPS counter, but the game plays very smoothly. Running on an 5700 XT eGPU, the game graphics automatically set to High.
Agent Intercept ***
This Apple Arcade chase-and-destroy title is definitely fun and worth playing.
The graphics aren't as advanced as Oceanhorn 2, but the challenges are much greater.
It plays well on Catalina, taking advantage of the 5700 XT capabilities. My settings are on High at 60fps, as you'd expect.
It's fun - but play while listening to your own soundtrack. You'll enjoy that a lot more than hearing the music included in the game. 😁
I started playing this game on Apple TV but got pissed off by the advancement policy, you repeat scenes endlessly. Has that improved?
I since then have interrupted my subscription to Arcade, it is not worth the while or was not at the time at least.
Activity Monitor shows Agent Intercept loading my eGPU to 50% at High quality + 60fps.
I'm having fun with this game. I appreciate the challenge. 😁
Another good candidate: War Thunder for Mac OS.
I get between 60 and 100 fps with maxed out settings (or very close to it) on a real 4K screen (4096x2160 not 3840x2160).
Seems to be well adapted to Mac OS gaming, and it is free if you are patient and resist the urge to go faster by buying some Premium content.
I did buy some because I am not patient and I wanted to support the good work of the programmers... and promote Mac OS gaming.
Asphalt 9: Legends ***
The fun arcade-style races in this game are cool. The best part of the game is the crazy ramp-launched car jumps. They are wild.
The graphics run beautifully on the 5700XT. Bright and colorful outdoor settings. Scenic city and mountain locales. All good visuals to enjoy throughout.
Unfortunately, you spend more in-game time claiming "rewards" and setting up cars than racing. 😳 Big drawback here.
The selection of cars is an appealing and diverse group. The adrenaline rush of fast-and-furious style racing is there.
But more in-game time spent racing, on and off-road, is needed.
Much more! 😅
@mini-i5, i'll never touch another game from Gameloft... terrible games designed to get people to spend money on in app purchases ratheer than designed to be an enjoyable game.

Oh yeah, I imagine the annoyance of wading through so many "shop" "reward" and "upgrade" screens likely sends most people elsewhere.
