I can't stress enough how much I love this place and the community of collaboration that exists here, which is why I am coming to you today for a little bit of assistance in some benchmarking. On the side, I am a writer and reviewer for MMORPG.com - a site dedicated to all things MMO, including the hardware we use to game.

As a longtime believer in the technology, I have stepped out on a limb review a Radeon RX580 within an eGPU enclosure. My end goal is to write a piece about the application along with the pros and cons.

For my test bench, I will be using a 2017 iMac 5K with a Core i5-7600 @ 3.50 GHz, 16 gigs of RAM with a Sonnet BreakAway Box 550 equipped with a Powercolor Red Devil RX580. Benchmarking will capture FPS, Min/Max/Average, Frametime using FRAPS.

Here is what I need for anyone willing to throw in with me. If you could help me collect some data - especially if you are using different cards, I would be grateful!

Here are a list of some of the games I will be testing:
- Rift
- World of Warcraft
- Guild Wars 2
- The Elder Scrolls Online

I am VERY new to this endeavor, so if there is a better way to capture data, please do not hesitate to let me know!

System: 27" iMac 5K (2017), dGPU - Radeon Pro 575
eGPU: SONNET BreakAway Box 550 w/ Nvidia GTX Titan X (Maxwell) or Powercolor Red Devil AMD Radeon RX580. BenQ Zowie XL (1440p @ 144Hz)

Thanks for taking this on!  Selfish curiosity mode activated:

barefeats.com does a lot of Mac benchmarking, including games.  In WoW, they start in the Tauren newbie area - and run from Camp Narache to either a giant tree or a well, then turn around and run back - averaging the FPS.  It's far from perfect, as other people can run in & out, etc. but it gives an idea.  Search there for his exact methodology.  Haven't played the others.

I know there are some FPS tools in Xcode, and the fellow at macgamerhq.com wrote one - haven't used either one in a long, long time so I don't know how they compare to FRAPS.

My interest has waned significantly since Apple decided to dick around with TB2 support for nMP.  HP Z series is getting the job done nicely.  I smell a nice cottage industry for someone to package an HP Z8xx MacOS installer.

And yes, tremendous community here.

Hey @flint-ironstag - thank you for your response and the information. I was able to collect enough data to give at least an anecdotal review for the card.  If you are interested, here is the review.
