Aero 15 HQ7700 low TB3 bandwidth issue
Haven't I seen this before around here? PCIe 3.0 > downgrade to 2.0?
I posted a larger screenshot in the Omen thread...
No change in hwinfo #5 when I run GPU-Z. GPU-Z does show Bus Interface as PCIe x16 3.0 @ x4 3.0 when running render test but is PCIe x16 3.0 @ x4 1.1 when doing nothing (to the left of the ?). The GPU-Z bus interface just reflects the PCIe slot setup inside the enclosure, right?
@Denjin what CPU is in your Aero 15?
I'm afraid you may need to get Gigabyte Support involved. I don't recall seeing an issue like this on Thunderbolt 3 hosts so far.
Yeah I opened a ticket. However, due to return window I'll be contacting the vendor tomorrow and trying to return it. I think gigabyte is doing some false advertising with the 'up to 40' claims for the TB3 on this if they have a PCIe 2.0 x4 port that TB3 is on!
Will be good to see someone else post some CUDA-z on here using a different laptop, too.
@Denjin, your system just needs a firmware update. It appears x4 3.0 capable it's just that the BIOS has limited the link to x4 2.0.
@Denjin, the rollout of Thunderbolt 3 has seen quite a few unoptimized host systems. Your system's BIOS being yet another to add to the list. Its an easy fix which your notebook manufacturer would need to fix in order to credibly sell it as a Thunderbolt3 equipped system.
Well the vendor I bought from (Scan Computers in the UK) is concerned and is speaking with Gigabyte about this. Will update as I find out more.
Is there any other cheap way to test/prove this in case someone wants to disregard the hwinfo64 test? I wish there was a cheap TB3 m.2 enclosure or something since I have a spare nvme m.2 drive lying around. I'm worried about the tests being ignored and the Omen box being blamed!
