Hello,
I have a Dell XPS 13 9370 and a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box 1080 that i have been using for a couple of years now.
Yesterday i upgraded the Thunderbolt 3 firmware on my Dell XPS 13 9370 from 33.00 to 40.00. (Firmware file: Intel_TBT3_FW_UPDATE_NVM40_2670N_A03_4.40.24.002.exe)
After that, the Thunderbolt controller stopped recognizing my eGPU - all it does it give power to the laptop, but it doesn't show up in device manager or under Thunderbolt ports.
When i click "About" in the Thunderbolt Software, it shows that there is no external GPU support:
I tried downgrading to version 33.00 using the FwUpdateCmd method outlined here, but i get the following error while running the procedure:
Are there any solutions to this?

@zj, Try the power reset on the Gaming Box by disconnecting power cable to it for 10 minutes then reconnect.

@itsage, Wow. Ridiculous, that actually worked. I spent over 10 hours yesterday trying to figure that out to no avail. Thank you so much!
