@cuppino, I am literally pulling out my hair right now. After trying every other trick I installed 1903 18362.295 and tested all the bootcampdrivers I could find... the Radeon RX 5700 XT stays on code 12...

Anything else I could try? I am on a Macbook Pro 2018 15"

unfortunately they never managed to get an amd card to work like egpu in bootcamp.
I bought nvidia out of desperation!

iMac 27" 5k 2019 (i9 9900k 3,6ghz, 40gb ram ddr4 2666 mhz, ssd 1tb, dgpu Radeon pro vega 48 8gb), Egpu: Razer Core X with ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity
Osx 10.15.7
Windows 10 pro 2004 - Bootcamp

Not sure if anything has changed since, but this setup was exceedingly easy for me to get up and running: https://egpu.io/forums/builds/2018-15-macbook-pro-rp560x-8th6ch-rx-5700-xt-32gbps-tb3-mantiz-venus-macos-10-15-1-win10-mac_editor/

I don't use bootcamp anymore though.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@tsakal, I built a PC as I finally had proper space/freedom to do so - moved all my gaming to that. eGPU is still primary on my desk however - useful for work (only macOS) and serves as a great one-cable solution to my monitors, time machine SSD, and ethernet.

@robboerman, I am using a mbp 13 2018 with w10 .295 on an ext ssd. I have stopped updates since and never had a problem. Running mainly project cars 2 and f1 2019 with a sim rig including a steering wheel and pedal connected through usb and bluetooth headset.

Running for hours at 1440p at 120hz on a 65" 4k tv monitor at average over 100 fps with the card a bit boosted.

@mac_editor, thats I will probably do in the future. As I build my sim rig I will need to connect and control more devises so a dedicated w10 pc with a proper card, sorry amd, will be required.

For the time being I have been happily served wiht an egpu since my tb2 mbp 13.

Thank you again for all the support that you have offered to all of us.

By the way, what is you opinion on the existence of all these issues people with both Macs and pc still have. Are the chip manufacturers the reason for limited compatibility. I can not believe why windows could not solve all these minor issues that exist for so long. My suspicion is that as mobile processors are catching up especially for the most of the apps and games it seems that some dont want people to go that direction. For the average user / gamer a good laptop like the base mbp 16 or a speced up mbp 13 paired with an egpu could be the dream combination. I remember the first attempt made over 10 years ago by sony with their Vaio laptops with the external graphic base. What a great idea. Only razer kind of following on those steps but the razer egpus are just too big. A gaming box is actually the best size in my eyes, if it could offer 5700xt performance it would be the perfect laptop companion.

Interested to hear your thoughts

I feel that most of these issues exist today due to corporate politics and lack of software quality control. There is no limitation on software/hardware (example: NVIDIA on macOS - totally doable - Apple doesn't wanna). Microsoft also seemingly doesn't care much for eGPUs or Thunderbolt in general (noteworthy absence of Thunderbolt from Surface lineup).

I'm absolutely floored and devastated.  So I tried to install Windows Server 2019 after buying a very expensive copy of it....

Windows 2019 isn't supported on Bootcamp.  I had researched and seen no sign of it not working and, heck, 2016 can work just fine with work arounds.  But the Mac just tells me that this software isn't compatible. Use a "commercial" copy.

I just blew up my Windows install which last time took HOURS and HOURS.  I just blew all my disposable income on this.  I don't have the luxury of buying a Windows PC because, well, let's be real here...the Server license *IS* that money.

So I'm sitting here, blinking, staring at the computer with no idea what to do next.  I'm completely floored.  I'm devastated.

@jmgmr2, Have you tried installing Windows without using Boot Camp Assistant in macOS? Create a new FAT partition in Disk Utility and boot option into the Windows USB.
