Over the weekend I tested Win10 2004 (OS Build 19041.423) with more Macs and different Radeon cards. While it helps iGPU-only Macs in Boot Camp, it didn't make much progress with dGPU-Macs. Best to stay with Win10 1903 V1 (18362.30 to .295) if you have a Mac with dGPU.

Would it be a good idea to mention this in the boot camp setup guide? Maybe not necessarily to keep away, but the option in general (good or bad). I've been going through it since the last couple of days before I even saw the 2004 version mentioned in a thread (which I found from a random reddit comment). It kinda seemed like a holy grail but was not mentioned in the official go-to (I guess) guide despite first being released / discussed for several months.

@guyinsea, Win10 1903 V1 (18362.30 to .295) is the one recommended in our Boot Camp eGPU guide. Win10 2004 versions have helped but not as good as 1903 V1. Until there's a solid build that works on on Macs, we're not going to recommend 2004 just yet.

Hi all, I have been really struggling with error 12, my setup is 2019 MacBook Air 13” with razer core x and rx 580. I have followed the method in Boot Camp egpu guide but it didn’t work out. I tried EFI and windows symbol was still blinking. I tried the method of

https://egpu.io/forums/postid/77794/, but I just can’t overcome error 12

I am kind of desperate here, can some one help me please :/

Hello everyone

Just got an eGPU setup yesterday and facing these issues, i didn't know about the differences between the Razer Core X and the Chroma so i got a Core X and a Gigabyte RX5700 XT

I tried to reinstall the whole Bootcamp partition with Windows 2004 and then replacing the pci.sys following @andreas_thomaidis guide step by step but no luck, this way not only the eGPU still shows error 12 but also the iGPU 5500 shows a driver error from the Device Manager

Did someone have an iso of Windows 1903 to share? i may have a 1909 but im not sure if it will work

My setup is a Macbook Pro 16 (late 2019) w 5500 onboard and Razer Core X w Gigabyte RX5700 XT connected via DP to a 32" monitor

EDIT: i just tried this also guide step-by-step: https://mobplay.games/articles/mac-boot-camp-egpu-setup-definitive-guide/ but still got no luck, everything matches till step 16, then my monitor won't go up saying DP no signal and the 5700 on error 12 🙁

@gabriele_bertini, the main differences between the Core X and Core x Chroma is the Chroma has the RGB Lightning and the USB ports and Ethernet (I have the Chroma).

i have used the PCI.sys method without issue on a couple of Macs now and works. Just go real slow step by step word for word and it should work. I have rushed once or twice and skipped a step and it failed.

@magwezie As far as I understand from other posts the differences are those you mentioned yes, but also it uses a different Thunderbolt 3 chipset which should give less issues (not none, just less)

At the moment I have a clean install of Windows 10 1903 v1, windows update disabled, have cleaned display drivers with DDU and reinstalled with the Adrenaline 2020 from boot camp drivers.com, still doesn't work

Here's the result:  https://ibb.co/GcJ7GyN

One thing to note on the differences between the Core X and Chroma is actually the PSU. The core x is rated 650W and the Chroma 700W.

If the GPU wants to draw 600W (like my Sapphire Nitro 5700 XT), then I would suggest that extra overhead. That being said Razer say the max GPU load can be 500W.

@gizzer3010, I don't think you're quite right, Core X can handle 5700 XT without an issue, I saw several builds here. There's no significant difference between them, even more, I saw a lot of comments that ethernet is buggy on Chroma.

But whatever, it's really offtop here.

Can you please expand on "it helps iGPU-only Macs in Boot Camp"? I have a 13" MBP (so no dGPU) with Core X Chroma/RX 5700 XT setup. Should I upgrade to 2004 stay at 1903? Honestly 1903 has been quite stable for me, but the fact that it's more than a year old build and I'm not installing any updates makes me a bit uneasy. Also I have a LOT of HDR-related issues with games, for which I blame Windows. Could be wrong of course, but that's another reason why I am eager to upgrade to something newer.

Spoiler
Offtopic about Core X vs Core X Chroma
The biggest difference between the Core X and Core X Chroma is the second TB3 controller. Unlike the nightmare experience with previous enclosures, I haven't had a single hiccup with USB peripherals attached to the Chroma and I have it since 6 months at least. I have two SSDs, a DS4 dongle and a sound card attached to it. Also using the Gigabit LAN quite often to copy 100+GB from/to my NAS. Always keeping a stable 100+ MB/s transfer rates without incurring packet loss or disturbing gameplay. So any issues it probably had at launch are remedied with driver updates
