So, after being far too smug about how simple both my 1050 and 1060 were to set up I grabbed a 570 (well, hunted one down after searching for months) and swapped it out for my 1060 hoping for the same plug and play as my Nvidia cards. No such luck! Everything was detected and igpu still active but error 12. Windows self solved when I had that with the 1060 but not so with the 570 (it was listed as 570 and windows told me to restart to finish set up but that never did anything).

I was was in a rush and a couple of glasses of wine in so maybe a bit hasty somewhere. I also gave up pretty quick and swapped the cards back. After deleting and reinstalling the nvidia drivers all was fine again.

Im now torn between what to do. I don't really need things to work in macOS but it would be nice.

Before I start working through the code 12 fix post does anyone have any idea why AMD cards are harder work than Nvidia? In my rush I'm not sure I ran DDU properly or at all so wondering if that could be an issue? I really like the simplicity of the Nvidia set up although there are issues with it working with my LG 5K but I think I can work that out.

As far as I remember, AMD eGPUs don’t work well on 2016 TB3 macs except 13” touchbar on Windows.

@mac_editor,  AMD eGPU can work with all TB3 MacBook Pro in Windows Bootcamp. It’s a matter of disabling PCIe bridges until you find a combination that works on a particular MBP. Thunderbolt 3 AMD eGPUs don’t work on TB3 MacBook Pro running 10.12.2-10.12.6. So far we have only one success report with a 2016 Touch Bar 13″ MBP + TB3 AMD eGPU.

@Eightarmedpet, to resolve error 12 on your Touch Bar 13″ you can disable PCIe root that connects to the right Thunderbolt 3 ports. Open Device Manager » View » Device by Connection to locate and disable PCI Express Root Port #9 – 9D18. eGPU should be connected to one of the left Thunderbolt 3 ports. You can read my Bootcamp eGPU setup guide for TB3 MBP for more details.

Thanks for the reply and your constant source of knowledge itsage! I might give it another go when I'm back from my current holiday. Would disabling the ports effect my ability to use my LG 5K display? I was having issues getting it working when I did my recent set up but I did it in a mad rush after too much wine.

Thanks for the clarification @itsage and apologies @Eightarmedpet for the wrong notion on my part. Have you tried disabling the iSight camera?
