Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2 (GTX1650) [9th,6C,H] and Razer Core X no luck (Windows 10)
I just got a new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme Gen 2 and installed my egpu (Razer Core X) and I'm stuck getting the gpu to boot due to code 12 error (Windows doesn't have enough resources to activate the device). The system is up to date and has the latest BIOS 1.26 installed.
What did I try so far:
- Disabled onboard Nvidia 1650TI
- Disabled Kernel DMA protection (Thunderbolt 3 Security stuff)
At this point I assume this is one of these Lenovo BIOS things but I saw another user with a Nvidia 2080TI working so I'm not sure
if something is special on my setup.
Looking the PCI tree, it seems the USB controller sit on the same PCI device, could that be the problem ?
Pls try to disable Thunderbolt security and enable Thunderbolt boot support. If you have a Nvidia GPU handy, test that as well.
Yes I had already thunderbolt security turned off but tested again with boot support enabled. Same problem sadly.
I don't have a Nvidia Graphics Card at this point but I'm contemplating getting one anyways.
@bjoernt What is the Windows 10 OS Build version on your laptop? Run
winver to find it. If it's newer than 18392.295, you likely face a common error 12 issue currently effecting many laptops. Roll it back to .295 or earlier.
OK I reinstalled a original Windows version (1903 Build 18362.356) with latest drivers but no windows updates yet and the egpu is now working. But I also changed to a Nvidia 2080 super but I will check with the AMD card just to see if it was related to the dirty OEM windows installation or specific windows patches
I'm that guy with the 2080 Ti haha. Good to hear you got setup. I still run into issues every now and then, like graphics in some games glitching or low fps but it could be due to the eGPU itself. I've heard Zotac's 2080 Ti has had its share of issues, but it could also be due to other variables within the system I have setup.
Thinkpad X1 Extreme gen2 (2019), 32GB, i9-9880H, RTX 1650
I have done some research but could not seem to solve the problem:
Thunderbolt control center is not detecting Razer Core X, I have tested it with the original and my own thunderbolt 3 cables
It does not power my X1 Extreme gen 2, I tried connecting the cable to my Nintendo Switch and it showed it was charging
I can see the fans on the graphic card spinning occasionally but my laptop does not show any detection of the graphic card
I have disabled Security Boot in BIOS
Any suggestions? Thanks
