Good day eGPU users!

I bougth the Lenovo Yoga c940 15 IRH recently. I thought I would give me a fine upgrade over the Lenovo Yoga 720 15 IKB I allready own. However:

The c940, when connected to my Razer Core X Chroma, offers about 12% less FPS than my Yoga 720 eventhough the c940 has a better CPU and a higher bandwith - if not for "device to device bandwith", which is about 5,2% lower with the c940 according to CUDAZ.

Yoga 720 Results:

Yoga 720
Yoga 720   RDR2
Yoga 720   SF3
Yoga 720   SW2
Yoga 720   TW3

- GPUZ+CUDAZ (see above)

- Red Dead Redemption 2 -> 57 FPS

- Spellforce 3 -> 53 FPS

- Shadow Warrior 2 -> 104 FPS

- The Witcher 3 -> 84 FPS

Yoga c940Results:

Yoga c940
Yoga c940   RDR2
Yoga c940   SF3
Yoga c940   SW2
Yoga c940   TW3

- GPUZ+CUDAZ (see above)

- Red Dead Redemption 2 -> 46 FPS

- Spellforce 3 -> 63 FPS

- Shadow Warrior 2 -> 94 FPS

- The Witcher 3 -> 78 FPS

Especially the really bad performance in Red Dead Redemption unnerves me...

Is there a chance to improve this result (tried different Drivers and diferent TB3 drivers) I`d be greatful for any hint.

Thx

phila

@phila-delphia,

Did you disable the c940’s factory-set “Intelligent Cooling” mode?

Are you running the laptop in “Performance” mode?

@mini-i5,  Thank you for your reply! Yes, I tried both of those options. I as well disabled the discrete GPU in bio as well just to check. All of this does not seem to influence performance.

I know that some games might behave differently on some systems - but I just do not get how the differenceon RDR 2 can be  about 23% given that the 940 should have an advantage due to the processor (as one can see in Spellforce 3). This indicatest, that something is limiting the graphics bandwith...

Best regards

phila

P.S.: On Kingdome Come Deliverance however the performance seems to be as expected in this single case the c940 clearly beats the 720...

@phila-delphia,

RDR performance varies a lot for everyone.

Here’s some game settings that might be helpful.
