Link bandwidth reading as 1x instead of 4x
Has anyone ever come across the egpu reading only as 1x? I've tried searching around but don't see much info related to this.
I'm using a Akitio Node Pro with a RX580 on a Gigabyte Aero 15 Laptop running windows 10. Everything like external display all works fine, but I noticed it wasn't performing well in game. I'm waiting for a new cable to arrive in the next few days to see if that was a problem. Any idea's anyone? I tried removing my NVME SSD from the laptop as well but same performance. I'm unable to test the egpu on another computer or to also try using a different gpu for now due to the lock down situation currently. Is there anything I should look out for? I do apologize if I linked the screenshots wrong. Its in the links below.
Suggest test another video card in the AKITiO Node Pro to see if the problem follows the enclosure or the video card. Then appropriately clean the PCIe slot/board with isopropyl alcohol to ensure clean connections are available and re-check.
@nando4, thx, yeah I plan on trying that once the country lets us go back to the office. I do suspect that it could be the Graphic card, as it had been RMA's once before for crashing under load. But I really hope it is just a faulty tb3 cable.
@gerardo85, the x1 link reported as detected between the AKITiO Node Pro and the RX 580 hence the suggestions in last post. Sorry to advise that if it was just a faulty 40Gbps TB3 cable it would still register as x4 link but downgrade the performance to say what is seen with a 20Gbps cable.
- Mac: Mac Mini Mid-2018
- macOS Version: 10.15.4
Recently, I use it on Windows10 by bootcamp. But I found its bus interface only has PCIe×1.
I don't know what's the problem and how can I fix it.
I hope someone can help me, please!
@yunfan_peng, maybe the GPU is idling because there's no 3D stuff being rendered? Click the [?] to find out.
Mine is exactly the same problem as @yunfan_peng. When idle it will say @ x1 1.1. Clicking the ? brings it up to @ x1 3.0. I'm hoping to get hold of a different gpu hopefully within a week to do a test. I've ran benchmarks on unigen and my built in 1060 scored 2800+ while my Rx580 scored only 2200+. So pretty sure my performance is crippled.
Things I've tried:
Clean GPU contacts, Blow air into the enclosure pcie slot, reflash GPU bios, change Tb3 cable
Things I plan to try:
Different computer with TB3 port (If the different GPU didn't work)
Conclusion, if the different GPU didn't work, means either my enclosure or laptop is faulty. I will have to test on a different computer to determine whether its my laptop faulty or the enclosure faulty. My bet is on the GPU.
@gerardo85, I prepare to de the same thing as you. But I don't have another GPU card, I will send my egpu to my friend. He has the whole equipment(his enclosure and GPU) to help me find the problem. And I also changed Tb3 cable, but nothing happened.
Looking forward to your result！Hope we can solve this problem!
@yunfan_peng, I managed to get hold of a desktop with a 1070Ti card. I got the same results. I read that the Egpu will have a 20% drop in performance, which is exactly where my Rx580 is at. But in the 1070Ti the performance drop is much more then 20%. I will need to do the test with another device that has TB3. I won't be able to test that until some time in June. I hope you have better luck then me. I have a pcie to nvme card on the way. When that arrives I will do a test using my SSD as well to see if its getting the correct speeds.
Some tests I did:
1070Ti in egpu:
Heaven Benchmark - 3458 score
1070Ti in Desktop:
Heaven Benchmark - 5480 score
Rx580 in egpu:
Heaven Benchmark - 2226 score
Rx580 in Desktop:
Heaven Benchmark - 2845 score
