Hey everyone.

I got a 2016 15" Macbook Pro and got my MZ-02 humming along nicely with Bootcamp. Well everything but the internal SSD. Hopefully someone has tackled this one before and can offer some insight.

My internal SSD can't go past 30-40 MB/s for reading or writing. With sustained activity, like when Steam allocates disk space for a new game install, the disk quickly becomes unresponsive. Task Manager then shows the disk at 100% activity, but there's no data being written or read. Typically at this point I have to reboot because Windows gets unstable.

I've worked closely with Mantiz Support on this one and we've jumped through all the troubleshooting hoops together. And by the way, Mantiz has been awesome on this one, really great support, and they continue to assist me (I'll share any updates along the way).

So for now, the only thing I can think of is to address this start up error at device location Port_#0003.Hub_#0001, which is from the MZ-02:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

A USB port reset request failed.

Any clues, guys and girls?

Thanks!

I have not encountered this issue with mine. I hope the new I/O board will remedy it. Please update us once you swap it out.

I most definitely will provide updates.

And just to be clear, John from Mantiz and his support team have been great. I really like the MZ-02 and my gpu (1080 Ti) runs great. This particular issue of mine should not discourage anyone from considering the MZ-02.

Mantiz shipped out the part on Monday (from Taiwan) and DHL will deliver today, Thursday (to Hawaii). @Mymantiz_John thanks for the speedy service!

🤞 Let’s see if this new part does the trick! 🤞

TL;DR, the replacement I/O card that Mantiz shipped out to me did the trick. Fully operational!

To recap, I was never able to achieve full performance of any disk drive with the MZ-02, whether internally or through one of the external USB ports. Whether it was a mechanical or SSD, I could never get past 30-35 MB/s. And if the drive had sustained writing activity then Windows would stall out and freeze. Other than that everything with this enclosure was OK including the gigabit ethernet, but at every boot into Windows I would get this error with the Device Manager:

device error

John and the support team at Mantiz were great. After a quick series of emails back and forth (on a Sunday, too) they determined it was a faulty I/O card and quickly sent me a replacement. Swapping the card out was easy and painless. The above error disappeared and now my internal drive is operating at full speeds. Yes!

I did have to reinstall the video card drivers via the Geforce Experience app. While doing so Windows crashed and naturally I had a small heart attack. But on the next reboot everything was fine and I'm up and running.

Thanks again to @Mymantiz_John and his support team. This was excellent customer service and I can wholeheartedly recommend your company and product.

Hi Andy,

Do you run Windows from SSD connected via USB 3.0 or SATA?

Hi Andy,

That’s the thing. Internally it connects via SATA, but it’s really a SATA to USB adapter (ASMT 2115). But it’s all USB 3 so you’re fine either way.

edit: Windows is partitioned on my Macbook’s internal drive.
