I’m running a ‘17 15” MacBookPro with 560 Pro gfx and 10.13.6 and BootCamp with the latest Windows 10 update. I have a Gigabyte GamingBox with an RX580 (this is all for testing at the moment, not performance).

The egpu works fine in the Mac side. I plugged the egpu in on the windows side and everything went black. Odd. The touch bar and cap lock key light up, so I guess it’s running. I restarted and the Win10 logo and dots come up, and then it all goes to black. Touch at and cap lock light up. I unplugged the egpu so there’s nothing connected to the laptop and restart. Win10 logo and dots, and then black.

i made a restore point before I plugged the egpu in the first time, so I boot into safe mode (which works) and start a recovery. It restarts, logo and dots, and black.

restart and system restore didn’t complete because a file couldn’t be accessed. No antivirus or much of anything installed under Windows.

what the hell is going on?
how can I fix this?
how can I get the egpu working in Windows?

I can boot into safe mode and disable the (discrete) AMD card and reboot using the integrated card. If I reinstall the Bootcamp drivers and reboot windows comes up okay. But the moment I plug the eGPU back in everything goes to black. When I do get video back (see just mentioned fix) it's like the resolution got set to zero or something similarly small (640x480) as the open browser window on reopening is almost as small as possible. Maybe it's a resolution issue with the eGPU's card? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
