AMD released a major drivers update today, Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 19.12.2. Guru3D has a good overview of the new interface and features. Unfortunately there's no support for eGPU users. I tried it on my two MacBook Pros and a MSI laptop and all encountered error 173, AMD graphics hardware was not found. As seen in this screen capture the RX 5700 XT eGPU is fully functional and seen in Device Manager and Adrenalin 19.2.1.

Interesting, Apple just released a new version of all their OS, on my MBP 15, the log in screen (password & wallpaper) now appears both internal and external screen (on eGPU 5700xt), previously was only on internal screen until the progress bar finish 2/3. Not sure if any other eGPU improvement or not, maybe Polaris series card boot issue resolved if anyone can confirm?

Back to new software from AMD, is there going to be any performance improvement on game?

thanks

@itsage I dont think the issue is related to eGPUs or MAC.

I have the exact same error as you 173 installing also in my Windows 10 PC (NOT MAC) using the AMD Radeon VII.

Looks like more an error on the drivers.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

I heard there was up to a 14% boost in performance with these new drivers, I tired updating last night but only got 19.12 drivers, guess these came out when I was napping. Will try again today and report back, subbing to see how this pans out for everyone else...

I went to device manager and selected update driver and pointed it to the AMD folder in the root of C.

Driver updated. Sure, you don't get any of the other crap installing but not sure it is needed.

Thanks @squuiid I installed the drivers with the device manager.

Looks like is something with the software from amd that dont recognize the graphics card.
