AMD released a major drivers update today, Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 19.12.2. Guru3D has a good overview of the new interface and features. Unfortunately there’s no support for eGPU users. I tried it on my two MacBook Pros and a MSI laptop and all encountered error 173, AMD graphics hardware was not found. As seen in this screen capture the RX 5700 XT eGPU is fully functional and seen in Device Manager and Adrenalin 19.2.1.

Interesting, Apple just released a new version of all their OS, on my MBP 15, the log in screen (password & wallpaper) now appears both internal and external screen (on eGPU 5700xt), previously was only on internal screen until the progress bar finish 2/3. Not sure if any other eGPU improvement or not, maybe Polaris series card boot issue resolved if anyone can confirm?

Back to new software from AMD, is there going to be any performance improvement on game?

thanks

@itsage I dont think the issue is related to eGPUs or MAC.

I have the exact same error as you 173 installing also in my Windows 10 PC (NOT MAC) using the AMD Radeon VII.

Looks like more an error on the drivers.

I heard there was up to a 14% boost in performance with these new drivers, I tired updating last night but only got 19.12 drivers, guess these came out when I was napping. Will try again today and report back, subbing to see how this pans out for everyone else...

I went to device manager and selected update driver and pointed it to the AMD folder in the root of C.

Driver updated. Sure, you don't get any of the other crap installing but not sure it is needed.

The new Adrenalin 2020 introduces a new streaming software (AMD Link) but only for who use AMD GPU...this is why it checks if you have any AMD GPU installed. Obviously someone hasn't thought about who use a eGPU...  it checks only PCI Express.

Please try this:

- Install the drivers manually, open Devices Manager, right click on your GPU AMD, update drivers, search locally into: C:\AMD\Win10-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2020-Edition-19.12.2-Dec12\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF

- Restart

- Go into the folder -> C:\AMD\Win10-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2020-Edition-19.12.2-Dec12\Packages\Drivers\Display\WT6A_INF\B349558

- Execute file with the name: ccc2_install.exe

- You will find a new folder named: C:\AMD\WU-CCC2\ccc2_install

- Try to execute WULaunchApp.exe or:

CCCSlimA4 = msiexec.exe , /quiet /norestart /i "CN\CCCSlim\A464\A4.msi"
CoreStaticNet4 = msiexec.exe , /quiet /norestart /i "CN\CCCSlim\Core-Static-Net4\ccc-slim.msi"
CN = msiexec.exe , /quiet /norestart /i "CN\CNext\cnext64\ccc-next64.msi"
Branding = msiexec.exe , /quiet /norestart /i "CNBranding\CNBranding64.msi"
amddvr = msiexec.exe , /quiet /norestart /i "CN\amddvr\amddvr64\amddvr64.msi"
wvr = msiexec.exe , /quiet /norestart /i "CN\wvr64\wvr64.msi"

ccc2_install.exe
cd %SYSTEMDRIVE%\AMD\WU-CCC2\ccc2_install
msiexec.exe /quiet /norestart /i "CN\CCCSlim\A464\A4.msi"
msiexec.exe /quiet /norestart /i "CN\CCCSlim\Core-Static-Net4\ccc-slim.msi"
msiexec.exe /quiet /norestart /i "CN\CNext\cnext64\ccc-next64.msi"

Did you notice the Boot Camp Update Program 6.1.10 just released?

It contains Adrenalin 19.30.02 and works well with eGPU. So the problem has been resolved at least on Mac side?

I'm able to get the software working by modifying the check conditions, at least for internal graphics cards in BootCamp. I'll be releasing adrenalin 2020 in the coming days.

Only internal cards? As in still issues with eGPU detection?

Well unfortunately since updating Windows my egpu doesn't play ball anymore so I don't know for sure but it is theoretically possible to add the egpus to the check list as well.

I was able to get Adrenalin 2020 work following @jefniro's instructions, but when I alt+tab multitask and back, the game screen freezes, yet the process itself doesn't. Sound still works and when I alt+tab and back again, for a second or so it works before the screen freezes again. Tested with two GOG games.

I'm not sure if it is Boot Camp related or Windows - AMD, but if I end the AMD processes in Task Manager (it closes Adrenalin) the problem is gone.

Also in the AMD release notes it is written:

NOTE:
This driver is not intended for use on AMD Radeon products running in Apple Boot Camp platforms. Users of these platforms should contact their system manufacturer for driver support.

Also now available for bootcamp via bootcampdrivers.com and its the latest 19.12.3 released yesterday.

Game window freezes apparently can be fixed by disabling enhanced sync btw.
