My setup
- MSI GS65 Laptop
- processor: 8750H (6 cores 12 threads, 2.2 GHz base, 4.1 GHz max turbo)
- ram: 16GB DDR4-2400
- Razer Core X + Gigabyte 2070 Super Gaming OC
- Monitor is a 3440 x 1440 100 Hz screen

While playing BF5 on Ultra preset, I barely get 40-50 fps on average. Whereas this reviewer ( https://techgage.com/article/nvidia-geforce-2060-2070-super-review/2/ ) gets a solid 80 fps, granted he has an i9 9900k and DDR4-3400, but I'd think those would have less of an effect.

Also, I thought the loss on TB3 would be around 15%, and even less on higher resolutions. Why does it seem like I'm losing almost 40%?

Here is my experience captured I had:

Could it be my CPU is thermal throttling? Is BF5 CPU heavy? CPU utilization seems to hover at around 50% though.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Yes your laptop CPU is being thermally throttled.

(Plus the faster RAM and desktop i9 do make a difference)

Shadow of the Tomber Raider and Deus EX absolutely hate TB3.0 eGPUs. The drop is about 40% there, but that's an extreme case. I would check your PCH temperature and report back. Your CPU dropping to 3.5ghz means nothing
