Man guys I’m bummed. Came on here got recommendations to speed up my late 2015 imac 5k and bought a Sonnet 550 + vega 56 to use on the newest version of Mojave. I did the Purge Wrangler setup no problem, geekbench score doubled. Checked the box on FCPX and the rendering and playback is half the speed of the stock 395x card. Really bummed out. I can see the card is working on the gpu history but what gives? Bummed I might have just burned $700
Sorry to hear it's not working out with your iMac. Which version of FCPX are you running? Do you have an external monitor to test?

The coding logic of final cut is
GPU connected to the display - live tasks
eGPU rendering and sharing (background tasks)
The idea is that while the eGPU is doing background rendering the GPU connected to the display has more resources to deal with live tasks so make sure background rendering is active otherwise you will have zero benefits.
