Hey guys,
My old NVIDIA eGPU setup on high sierra worked great with Premiere. On moving to Catalina and switching to an AMD RX 570 card Premiere does not utilise the eGPU whatsoever. I can't even zoom in and out of a busy timeline without awful performance and lagging, let alone playing back and scrubbing. Resolve pics up the card fine.
Setting project media to render off hardware in METAL and OPEN CL makes no difference.
Premiere app set to utilise eGPU in "get info" window.
I have tried connecting an external monitor to the eGPU and closing the Macbook, no luck there either.
What's happening here, was CUDA just helping me out alot more on my old setup?
Specs:
eGPU / Sapphire RX 570 4GB / Akitio Thunder2 / Macbook Pro Mid 2014
(Old GPU: EVEGA NVIDIA GTX 960 OC 4GB)
Premiere 14.2 (2020)
Used purge-wrangler script.
Any insight would be really appreciated.
Thanks!
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
.About to buy my first Egpu primarily to extend the life of my maxed spec out 15" MBP (mid-2015) with the AMD Radeon R9 M370X and I'm also an editor using Premiere. I'm staying with Mojave as it seems to have caused lots of issues.
I'm planning to either get the Akitio Thunder2 or Chroma Core.
Read your issues with the AMD RX 570 card. Wonder if you can help me make a decision:
1) Did you solve your issue?
2) How much of a bump in performance did you get from the old card vs with the egpu?
3) Would you recommend your old card? My budget is about $600 for both card and egpu.
Thanks!
