Quadro eGPU performance question
I'm going to be taking some CAD courses, and I'm considering buying a thin and light gaming laptop rather than a portable workstation due to cost and availability. Several people have suggested that a gaming card would serve my immediate needs well, and I could add a Quadro eGPU if I find I need more power in the future. Or would I be better springing for something like the Lenovo P1 (it has a P2000 Max-Q card), and skipping the gaming laptop Quadro eGPU entirely?
What sort of performance hit does a Quadro card take when used as an eGPU? Is it severe enough that, say a p2000 in a laptop would be able to keep pace with a P4000 in an eGPU? Most reviews I've seen involve gaming cards, and revolve around fps numbers. Is there a better measure of performance I can check out? And please pass along any posts that may help.
