I'm still on build phase for an eGPU.

I've seen several different configurations of Dell DA-2 used to power enclosures, in my case the Akitio Thunder2.   @deplomb seems to have one of the cleanest setups (IMHO).  I ordered this part from eBay/Karaeon Kables ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/332176526178 ).  Its a  8pin to 6pin-90 degrees w/5.5x2.5mm barrel connector.

To my surprise, I quickly found out this custom harness will not mate to the DA-2 plug.  <bummmed>!!!      After a couple hours sifting through the Internet the only thing I could find close enough was the female plug from an old optiplex gx260, which would end up running me another $20-$50 to purchase and then more time to figure out if I could use the part.

This is from the other thread (mini-eGPU with Akitio....), which I didn't want to derail, so started up a new thread for it.

deplomb seems to have made this work, but I couldn't find any info on how.   (If anyone know more, please share the knowledge).

here is one example with a GTX970 in the Akitio thunder 2
I went with the dell DA2 PSU and built the 8pin PCIe connector into the Akitio backplate right underneath the PCI bracket.
Very tight but it fits. The power supply for the Akitio itself is wired inside the Housing and soldered to the PCB tight underneath the Barrel connector.
So no barrel plug on the outside needed.

@ deplomb Very curious about this picture….   Others, please feel free to comment, I need some help and extra eyes on this.

The plug you have looks identical to the harness I just received from Kareon Kables for my Thunder2 build.  However, the DA-2 end DOES NOT fit into this plug.   So how did you pull this off?  Is your DA-2 plug modified?  Or is there another DA-2 version that actually accepts the plug you have on your Thunder2?

My DA-2 cable end:  This plug is upside-down.  If you were to flip it over, none of the shapes/slots would align to the harness

My harness that just arrived (Notice the Harness plug matches the same as your… however the DA-2 does not match the harness:

This is the only plug/harness I have seen that will fit the DA-2 plug.    The only female plug I can think of is trying to find an old optiplex gx620 and seeing if I can scavenge the plug from it to adapt into a harness.   Does seem like a lot of work, but it would look a lot better than have a 12pin plug mated to a 8pin (DA-2) plug.

This will be my attempt to make what deplomb created.

Took out my exacto knife and did some surgery on the DA-2.  There is enough material on the square posts to make them into round (angled) posts.

The result is.....  you can now mate the DA-2 plug to the custom harness.

Now I just need to re-wire the pinout on the custom harness and play around with the sense wire (unless it is already wired correctly?)

I need to find the pinout to the DA-2, which I am sure it lives somewhere on this forum.

Used a couple 5/8" staples, bent them into a L-shape... insert them into the harness to release the prong/catch.

All wires removed... now to put them back in, but in correct order.  I also added a ground jumper (soldered/spiced+heatshrinked) to make the "remote" wire... this is needed to signal the PSU to turn on.

Almost final product, I am debating on wrapping up to the connector (on harness side) with heat shrink to make it look nicer.  Powered up the DA-2 and I have my green light.  Voltmeter shows 12.4 volts on all yellow pins as well as the barrel connector

I'm not able to see the photos that you attached. Waiting for the solution of your problem  I suggest you how to  obtain an 8 pins male connector for da-2.

You can use a 24 pins atx connector or a 24 pins atx extender. https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-24-Pin-Supply-Extension/dp/B01DV1Z66C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493115655&sr=8-1&keywords=24+pin+atx https://www.amazon.com/ATX-Power-Supply-Connector-Right/dp/B004G4ZFY2/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1493115843&sr=8-11&keywords=24+pin+atx .

The 8 pin pattern of  dell da-2 matches the atx connector in 2 points

As @vava726 said the images cannot be seen, however, @vava726 helped me understand a clean solution that could be implemented in the way you'd want by checking out this thread:  https://egpu.io/forums/psu-cables/akitio-thunder23-power-drawl-help/#post-7681

You could do all those connections inside the Thunder2/3 and have the 8pin connection mounted to the enclosure like you mentioned in the first post!

sorry guys... I am not sure what is causing the pictures to not show up.

I just had a friend look at the post and I see what you are referring to.   Its odd that when I cut/paste an image it shows up for me.   Each time I use the uploader it fails.    If there is a preferred method for attaching pictures (i.e. size limitation), please let me know so I can correct this...   The pictures really help tell the story.

If the media library doesn't work for you just upload your image to imgur.com and link it. It will show up here.
