[Solved] XPS 9500 at 87W or 60W? (Mantiz Venus)

I recently got an XPS 9500 and when I connect it to my Mantiz Venus I get a notice of "Slow Charging" on Windows. The laptop is rated for 130W overall, but I was thinking that it would have a lower power requirement when connected to this eGPU (i.e. power only the CPU and RAM), but it's not the case. Has anyone faced and solved this charging problem? I would not want to get a different charger for the laptop - I already have a 2 cable setup that I am happy with, and would not want to change it.

PS: I did upgrade the PSU to a 700W unit to power a 3070 and the laptop itself.

Edit: A little bit more digging allowed me to check some things:

  • The XPS is reporting that the dock is only charging at 60W
  • I did replace the PSU, which should be delivering 87W, but, obviously it is not.

What can I do at this point?

I realized what going on! I was using the Razer TB3 cable, which is only rated for 60W. Using a CalDigit TB4 cable now and I am getting 87W now! Smile
