@steve_tsokev, that'll work. But if the Wavlink has a cable, why use an M.2 adapter with another cable?

Hi guys, sorry for my english, i recently purchased the ADT-Link R43SG-TB3, and try to use it with my old PC components which are HIS R7 260x 2GB and a thermaltake litepower 450 on my Lenovo Yoga 730 13-iwl (2009 version with updated whiskey lake i7-8565u).

At first try my Yoga 730 can detect the R43SG-TB3 on hot plug, then i install a display driver from AMD sites, after that it was detected as R7 200 series on device manager but it get exclamation icon and shown error 12. After that i try to cold start again with the R43SG-TB3 attached to my Yoga 730 and to external monitor (TV), the error 12 was gone but windows can only shown display on my TV, my internal Yoga 730 display was blank. Then i try to play some games to test the eGPU load, but after only 3 seconds the eGPU went crash and died, the fans stop spinning and the PSU turned off. I knew it was because of my bad rated PSU.

Finally i bought a decent PSU which is a Corsair CV450, after i change the PSU the R43SG-TB3 works like a charm on my Yoga 730 even on cold boot and no external monitor attached, i can play demanding games now on my Lenovo Yoga 730.

So based on my experience never use a bad PSU with the ADT-Link R43SG-TB3, you should go with a decent PSU and it will run great from the start.

I have a question, on GPU-Z my bus interface is PCIe x16 3.0 @ 4x 3.0, does it means that my Yoga 730 has 4 lanes PCIe on the thunderbolt 3 port?

Cheers

@joevt I am not sure I follow .. which is the duplicate cable in the suggested configuration? The m.2 extender of the EXP GDC connects to the Wavlink which connects to the laptop via the TB3 cable

@steve_tsokev, there is a Thunderbolt cable to the Wavlink. The EXP GDC adds another cable from the Wavlink.

My suggestion is to convert from M.2 to PCIe x4 with an adapter that doesn't have a cable as shown in that photo. All the items used in that photo are discussed in the thread I linked.

Hi to all! I have a question about ADT-Link R43SG-tb3 M.2-tb3 adapter. As I understood, if I take Samsung 970 Evo 500 gb ssd, connect it to R43SG-tb3 M.2-tb3 adapter and when use Apple tb3-tb2 adapter and tb2 cable it won't work? I have an early 2015 13'' Macbook Pro and I want to connect external ssd to it. If yes, can I use some regular external tb3 or usb type-c ssd via apple tb3-tb2 adapter and tb2 cable through tb2 interface? Thanks for your replies!

@musskprime, get a Thunderbolt 3 dock and connect the Thunderbolt 3 drive to that.

Hi there,

It is my understanding that if I buy an ADT-Link R43SG-TB3 plus a cheap power supply for the graphics card, plus a Thunderbolt cable, then I have a functioning case-less E-GPU.

Is that correct? If so, I'm trying to understand why people pay $500 for E-GPUs. I don't need the extra ports from an egpu. Do the cases dampen the card fan noise? Since the cases themselves have fans on them, I wonder if just having the whole thing outside of a case isn't actually both better and quieter, provided it's safe from external damage.

Can someone let me know if I'm way offbase here or am I right to suggest that building my own egpu is quite easy and much cheaper?

Thanks!
Shiraz

Hi guys, i have a doubt if, the r43sg-TB3 is capable to charging the laptop while using, equal as OEM enclosures do, like xg station, aorus box... My laptop is an asus ux501vw and i will use a r43sg tb3 to build my system, and will be too good if i dont need a extra cable on my table, it will be a more clean setup..

Please moderator, i dont know if this thread are on correctly place..

@mr-ribeiro , ADT-Link R43SG-TB3 just provides the ~12-15W BUS power to the notebook. This is not sufficient to charge the laptop.

If the TB3 cable laptop charging feature is important to you, consider other TB3 enclosures in the Buyer Guide with 60W+ Power Delivery (PD). 100W PD being the max TB3 spec and is provided by the Razer Core X / Chroma, Mantiz Saturn Pro.
