Yes, I don't actually "unplug" it, I just turn on Node when I am about to game (Battlefield 1 & Watch Dogs 2) and turn it off when I am done, no rebooted required or any crashes and I continue with my business in Windows. Obviously I don't have monitor plugged into Node which will not use full potential of 1080 card, but I am ok with it. As I mentioned Node is loud and I don't want to run it constantly

waal, this is the first case, I have seen can turn on or off without any system issue.

Late Macbook Pro 2016 13' touch bar + AKITIO node + GTX 1050TI 4G Windows

Well, all I can say it works perfectly with NUC. It would be highly annoying if it worked any other way.

Intel Nuc Skull Canyon
Akitio Node

I thought that any brand of 10XX cards were compatible... 🙁

I installed my Node today.

I have an MSI WT73VR648. The TB settings -> details page says no to eGPU support. I am able to get it to work. Currently I have a GTX 970 installed to test. I am planning to use the Titan XP once my Dell 8K Display arrives.

P5000
GTX970

Since I can't seem to edit my last post. The P5000 is the internal GPU and the GTX 970 is in the Node.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

do you have software like creo 2/solidworks or catia where quadros are better than geforce?

you could use this software for testing and making a comparison

I have a 15" macbook pro mid 2015 M370X, akitio node and gigabyte g1 gtx 1080 with thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter.

TLDR anyone know anything about whole system freezes requiring force shutdown, while using gtx 1080 (in a Node)?

it works extremely well except sometimes, semi rarely, i get a full system freeze, requiring force shut down i saw in this thread that   @mcarver316 mentioned stability issues (was this what he was talking about?) using the latest nvidia driver and to downgrade to a particular one, which i did, but i have had one crash since i switched to it. I would really appreciate as speedy a response as possible since i am still in the return period for my 1080 but it's closing fast
