Hey Folks:

Anyone have experience with the Akitio Node Pro + AMD Pro Vega 64 Frontier Edition card?  Will the Node Pro supply enough power?  Note that I will not be also trying to power a laptop with box, so all power can be used by the card (if that works that way).

Some resellers say it won't work--anyone have experience?

Connecting to a full spec 2017 iMac for use with FCPX editing.  Thanks!

Soon I will add my system & eGPU details or a build link to this my signature to give context to my posts

Would be interested as well. Stating Tom the AMD Pro Vega 64 Frontier Edition card brief peaks can hit 380W. That would be still ok since the Akitio Node Pro has 400W available for the GPU. Still very close though 🙂

MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017), 3,1 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3, Radeon Pro 555 2048 MB, Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB + 8GB Asus Radeon RX Vega 56 ROG Strix OC + ???

Looking for a perfect eGPU fit. Recommendations welcome! 🙂

Well big question between measured peak... and PSU power

I understand that we could have an issue with the PSU efficiency.

The Asus Strix Vega 64 is known to consume 280W in torture mode...

Then... ???

BTW I receive my Vega64 tomorrow morning, I will see what happen... And maybe upgrade the PSU or buy a Razer Core X to have two eGPU...The Razer Core X has a good price on Amazon.fr for us... French guys 🙂

MBP 2018, Touch Bar, i7 2.6 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1T SSD, Radeon 560X... very nice!

I would love to know how this works since I am looking at the exact same configuration for a 2018 Mac mini, AKiTiO Node Pro, and Vega FE GPU.

I can’t comment on the Node Pro, but my experience with Vega FE/LC is that 500W will not be enough.
I had mime with Sonnet 550 and I ended up replacing the PSU with an 850W one, due to crashes.

Well, interestingly, I was in touch with Akitio and they had this to say:

"This card is currently not on our compatibility list but according to this post at https://egpu.io/forums/builds/late-2016-macbookpro-15bootcamp-win10amd-vega-64akitio-note-proexternal-monitorsuccess/ , it appears to work fine. In case the power consumption of the card exceeds the 500W the PSU in the Node Pro can provide, you might have to slightly underclock the card or upgrade the PSU."

So: anyone have a recommendation on how to upgrade the PSU?

Nice, Akitio is referencing to this forum 😎

@screendor, why not considering underclocking? I am hearing the results are actually pretty good for both Vega 56 and vega 64 cards.

New to this--assume I can use AMD Wattman to adjust the power on the card?
That said, anyone with real experience with the Node Pro and the AMD Vega FE would be super helpful.
The option would be to get a higher power PSU but am hoping for an off the shelf solution.  Would get the Sonnet 650 but want the additional Thunderbolt 3 port on the Akitio.
