@hans-st, I am not very knowledgable in this area so perhaps you could help me out? My issue is that I cannot find the exact power supply from the guide and I do not know exactly what to look for. I have found powersupplies with similar connectors and wattage but does it require a specific oltage/amps? e.g. the da-2 has 12V 18A, does that matter?

@bart_bliek, I'd be tempted to send the 1060 back and grab a 1650 OC or something similar as they dont require an additional power cable at all, and the 1650 OC isn't that far behind the 1060... plus it will run cooler.

@bart_bliek

I agree what @eightarmedpet is writing, in this case a regular power supply like this one should fit:

@hans-st, thank you for the reccommendation. I am committed to trying the 1060 however and have actually found the right powersupply. The modification explained in the guide does not seem like a lot of trouble but perhaps I am missing something? Should I expect issues with stability for example?

@bart_bliek,

Although I do not know the 1060, if the power adapter fits and has sufficient power, it should work. However, the Node Lite is a nice and small enclosure so I can imagine that you need the internal fan for cooling down the 1060. If this is the case, I recommend to exchange the original fan against a Noctua because it is much more quiet. I am interested how it works, please keep us informed.

Success

@bart_bliek,

I had a look  on the GTX 1060 mini and it seems it needs an additional power supply. As far as I remember, the Node Lite will not provide that. I assume that this combination will not fly that easily. I would not try it.

@hans-st,

No the node does not have sufficient power by itself but I am going to try and use the DA-2 powersupply from the guide with the modifications they showed. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Hey thanks for making this awesome guide.

I built a 1060 eGPU with the node lite and the DA-2 powersupply. I have a question though, I got the barrelplug with the screw terminal from the picture and I am having some problems. The first time I installed the cables and tried to plug it in the powersupply just shut off (shot circuit?) but after a minor heartattack and a second attempt at installing the cables all worked fine. However, if I so much as touch this plug it shuts off the whole thing, so far that has been kind of fine as I can work around that by just not touching it.

However, last night, when I tried playing cities skylines (a very cpu intensive game) suddenly the main power went out (shorted the whole network? I wasnt drawing a lot of power at the time). I am unsure if this issue is related, as this particular group has done this in the past but I from what I understand, cities skylines is a cpu intensive game that would cause thunderbolt controller to draw more power. I did not actually touch any of the connectors or anything so I don't think it's that.

I don't understand much about electrical circuits so perhaps somone can help me out here?
