@dracuvlad Best case scenario the AGA performs similar to desktop 4x connection.

futher to my question above,
Does that means i am better off buying egpu with thunderbolt 3 connection as it gives the same performances as Alienware AGA?
Currently, my specification is:
i7-7700HQ
16gb
512 SSD
1060gb
Im wondering does purchasing the AGA is justifiable.
Concerns:
1. when will the CPU starts to bottleneck?
2. i do notice that when i game on the machine the package temperature gets up to 90 C which is hot. will the addition of AGA brings down the temperature. hence, maybe improve the life span of the laptop.
3. im want to use the laptop with at least one more primary display as the current screen size is way too small. I read that 13r3 1060 GPU is connect via the minidisplay output, does the AGA helps improves this in anyway?
(trying to justify my purchase, also i'll be keeping an eye on your latest test results on the RTX 2080 and GTX1080.

@dracuvlad, no AGA performs better than any TB3 eGPU due free of TB3 bandwidth. You can check here 8750H laptops Firestrike benchmark ranking the 3rd place Dell laptop that I believe with aga and 1080 gpu (dGPU is 1070), can only be beaten by me...with 2080ti 😉 TB3 eGPU setting, if he use higher gpu 1080ti/rtx2080 (ti), it will blow my score away. The downside from aga I believe is only you should restart your laptop to detect gpu unlike TB3 hot plug (plug and play). Other things to notice from his physical score is it’s seems lower for 8750H full performance score, so it may throttle happened there which translates the cpu runs hot unlike on eGPU TB3 setting that helps lowering gaming laptop cpu thermal, it’s only my thoughts though.

Paired with the right host, the AGA performs better than TB3. I ran an RTX 2080 through the AGA and Razer Core yesterday. The benchmark numbers will be posted soon.

I ran the RTX 2080 first through the Graphics Amplifier then Razer Core. Nvidia drivers were latest version 411.7. The eGPU connected to an HP Z27Q 5K monitor. All benchmarks were through external monitor with internal display off. I also disabled PCI Controller 1901 [GTX 1070 dGPU] to make sure no glitches were happening. Here are the numbers.

AW15R3 + RTX2080AGA FHDTB3 FHDAGA QHDTB3 QHDAGA 4KTB3 4KAGA 5KTB3 5K

Hitman86.3 FPS81.7 FPS77.1 FPS68.5 FPS38.6 FPS35.8 FPS21.5 FPS21.1 FPS

Here we see the performance difference between the Graphics Amplifier vs Thunderbolt 3 is similar to that of internal PCIe slot vs TB3. The gap lessens at higher resolutions. The AGA is no doubt a better performer when paired with a capable host such as this Alienware 15 R3. One thing to note is the proprietary cable. I've seen boot issues due to a damaged cable. The end connector is hard to remove and typically requires force. Limit the removal of the cable to extend its life.

Great results. I feel happy with my purchase now. Other than Dirt Rally, the AGA has some fair gains over TB3 in most cases.

Thanks for the extensive testing. My 17 R5 should hopefully allow full bandwidth.

@itsage - A small nitpick for a great set of data, but: Why no 5K Valley and Heaven results? I ran them at 5K before.

Want to output 4K@60Hz out of an old system on the cheap? Read here.
Give your Node Pro a second Thunderbolt3 controller for reliable peripherals by re-using a TB3 dock (~50$).

@yukikaze I tried running them in 5K but the resolutions were capped at 4096px. Can you check yours and let me know?

@itsage, I'll check when I get home (much) later today. I am convinced I ran them before at 5K for my own curiosity. I just did not provide the results anywhere since it didn't seem very interesting to people as 4K adoption is tiny and 5K adoption is pretty much nonexistent.

How are you liking the Z27q, btw?
