@itsage et al,

I have found the AURA software and made it work!

The version is 0.0.6.3. I got it from drivers.eu. In case it gets removed from there, I am linking the file here for any who may be interested: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZTYKv-AzttKPDXAGHo8CnWj4bYtOLLRH/view?usp=sharing

No idea why ASUS no longer hosts this. Probably not many XGS Pro users. I am so so satisfied with its quietness.

=)

@lwf, Thank you! I set it once a long time ago and never changed it. It's good we have it available to download when the needs arise.

@itsage, I hate to bother you but I need help and I feel like you're the only person in the world I can turn to hahaha. I have a recurring problem with my setup that I usually can resolve (with lots of work) but I upgraded my GPU to a 3070 and now.

Here's a breakdown of my setup:

Laptop: HP Spectre x360 15" (2019 Gem Cut -- df0000 model)
Onboard GPUs: iGPU (Intel), dGPU (GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q)
eGPU Enclosure: This one, owned since release
Old eGPU: GTX 1080 Ti (Founder's Edition) - Avg. Power Draw: 230W
New eGPU: RTX 3070 (MSI Gaming X Trio) - Avg. Power Draw: 238W
Drivers: Nvidia and other drivers are up to date
Displays: External 4K display (powered by eGPU) used simultaneously with internal 4K display (powered by iGPU)

Recurring Issue: Every once in a while after some specific scenario involving a disconnect, or re-connect, or power-down (haven't been able to pin down specifically what!) the eGPU (card, not enclosure) will no longer be detected.

During troubleshooting another of several issues will likely occur, sometimes individually, sometimes concurrently:

  1. Monitor doesn't detect an input despite thunderbolt being detected by the PC and the XG Pro being on.
  2. After restarting the Spectre, Bluetooth and Wifi won't work, and some actions in Device Manager can freeze the program. I think the dGPU may display an error, along with a number of other devices.
  3. Restarting after the above issue takes upwards of 10 minutes, only turning off after a bluescreen crash.
  4. Sometimes upon restarting, the issue is there again, sometimes it's resolved (but card still not recognized). This likely involves some combination of whether or not the XG Pro is on or off when I start, turned on after, or not at all.
  5. During these issues, sometimes the XG Pro will be powered on but the card won't turn on. In certain frightening instances, the Spectre crashes and powers off instantly (w/o a bluescreen). The eGPU may or may not shut down as well.

After running a million troubleshooting steps -- some combination of powercycling eGPU, laptop, monitor in different orders, sometimes repeating the same sequence multiple times or waiting overnight to try again -- it will eventually just work perfectly and stay that way for weeks or months until I somehow trigger the problem again. I know it's working again when the HP logo appears on the external display after restarting. Then both the external and internal display behave as expected and the eGPU operates properly.

With COVID-19, my laptop has remained plugged in at my desk 90% of the time, which means less chances to accidentally trigger the issue.

New DevelopmentAfter installing the 3070, this issue occurred (which I kind of expected). I started troubleshooting and eventually got it to the point where it looked like it was working: the HP logo showed up on the external display during startup. But instead of continuing on that screen, the windows login appeared on the internal display and the external display has no image.

The laptop shows the XG Pro as connected via TB3 and the external display still detects an input signal -- it would turn off in 30 seconds if not. However, the GPU isn't listed in devices and windows doesn't detect a second display. I power cycled three more times (uninstalling the dGPU 1050 Ti device first) but nothing changes. I'm letting the laptop power run out now and will do a long hold on the power button later to get a hard reset. (Card seems to be running fine, I should mention. The fans and RGB are operational at least.)

😪

I'm sorry this is such a huge, complex post. That's why I never bothered seeking help before since it always ended up working eventually. But this new issue is unprecedented and involves new untested hardware.

Thank you for any help, tips, guidance you have to offer 🙏

@casey_toney, Some laptops are unpredictable with eGPU cold-boot behavior. HP is one brand that I've noticed strange scenarios. For example, I tried an 2019 Ice Lake OLED Spectre 13 that normally show an HP logo during boot. However it would show an OMEN logo during boot if I connected an RX 5700 XT eGPU. Thunderbolt device detection was inconsistent too.

Your symptoms sounds different because Thunderbolt device detection seems consistent but the eGPU itself doesn't show up. My first recommendation is to disable the GTX 1050 Ti dGPU in Device Manager so that only the Intel iGPU is running. The combination of iGPU + eGPU works better than iGPU and dGPU + eGPU. Next is to run DDU so that you can remove Nvidia graphics drivers, display connections, and PCIe root port associations. Make sure you open OPTION in DDU to disable Windows auto detection and driver installation of new devices.

I hope with a clean set of drivers for the RTX 3070 eGPU only, your setup will work more predictable.

@itsage, Thank you so much for the help! I'm trying that now.

Should I run DDU in Safe Mode like they recommend? Once I've uninstalled and cleaned everything that way, what should be my first step after? If I boot after that with the 3070 connected should it hopefully just be recognized at that point?

@casey_toney, You can boot into Safe Mode to run DDU. Upon restarting the computer, hot-plug the RTX 3070 eGPU then wait for Device Manager to show a new "Microsoft Display Adapter". Then you can proceed to download latest drivers from Nvidia website.

Is it compatible with Asus Laptop 15 X509MA which has USB Type C 3.0(3.1 Gen 1)?

@Khairul Anas, The host laptop must have Thunderbolt connectivity in order to use this ASUS XG Station Pro.

@itsmedom, make sure any other ASUS software you might have tried is uninstalled. If the XGS is plugged in and going, it should work!
