@Santiago 10.15.5 beta 4 was working for awhile.   10.15.5 beta 5 does not work at all.   I have gone back to using my SwitchRexX/HammerSpoon workaround, which still works.

Anyone been able to give the GM version of 10.15.5 a go?

@joevt, well, it does not work for me. If I use EGPU only, sometimes I get black screen (I don't think it reaches login screen since caps lock does not work), sometimes it boots normally. And waking up from suspend still fails sometimes.

Thus I am using same approach than @DaveSignal (thanks for that!)

Since I have only one monitor I decided to use a dummy HDMI plug instead of attaching the mac mini to a secondary port (otherwise I need to switch monitor inputs from HDMI to DisplayPort each time after boot).

Yeah, also tried latest 10.15.5 update and not working for me either.   But the workaround I posted earlier still works.   I have multiple HDMI in one of my monitors, and don't need to switch the display input for the mac to boot.  It just boots as long as something is connected.  The monitor stays on the eGPU inputs, which get video during the boot process and even displays the Apple boot logo on one of them after the BIOS beep. It is a shame that I was required to find a workaround, but I am going to stop messing with it now because I don't have any issue with the workaround and the mini boots, reboots, wakes from sleep every time.

Thanks everyone. This has been a really helpful thread.

As I sit here and ponder an upgrade from Mojave to Catalina I need to ask this question.

My egpu setup at the moment just uses an HDMI cable from the Mini to the monitor and a TB3 cable from the Mini to the Razer Core X. With a Radeon Vega 64 as the egpu. This way I have no start up issues at all.

My question is how much of an increase in gpu processing power do I really get if I persevere and feed the monitor from the Razer Core X? The way, I’ve read you should set an egpu up.

Thanks

Tim

Hi All

Well I finally bit the bullet and ungraded to Catalina 10.15.5.

I'm pleased to say it's all working perfectly.

Mac Mini 2018 - 3.2 GHz 6 core i7

64GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Radeon RX Vega 64 8 GB running in a Razer Core x.

I am just running a single monitor off the first DisplayPort to the HDMI port on the monitor. (An LG 34UC99-W 34" UWQHD)

I'm able to shut down and start and restart all without issue.

Thanks for all the feed back. Let me know if there's any other info I can provide.

Regards

Tim
