Hello guys.

Kindly ask you to help me with my problem - connet my MBA and 1080 inside Node.

I saw Akitio Node in MacOS (and no GTX1080 inside - still no driver), but didnt see this or any othe device  in Win10.  So, when i try to update firmware Node`s drivers via Firmware version v1.0.0.4 B1-23+3.6.1 ( https://www.akitio.com/firmware/node-firmware)

have such  message - screenshot 1 in attach

When i try to boot in Win with installed 1080 in node - only black screen.

When i try to boot in Win without videocard (only connected MBA and Node via Thunderbolt cable ) - boot - ok, but the same like i said before (no any devices via Thunderbolt port).

Have some one the same problem ?

Please help.

Many thanks for your kind attention.

First you need to update Thunderbolt 3 Driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOTHERBOARD/Intel/ASRock-Z270-SuperCarrier-Intel-Thunderbolt-Driver-16-2-52-250.shtml#download

Then you must update the Node -  https://www.akitio.com/firmware/node-firmware

1.First you need to update Thunderbolt 3 ...

2.Then you must update the Node

1. Done. However recieved such message, when try to launch Thunderbolt Software http://screenshot.ru/upload/image/z8mN"><img src=" " border="0"></a>" target="true"><>

2. When try to boot with iunstalled card - still black screen. When without card - no device. If launch Node update file - recieved this http://screenshot.ru/upload/image/z8mz"><img src=" " border="0"></a>" target="true"><

P.S.  sorry for bad links (

Update 1. Both version of drivers on Thunderbolt  ( old 2.0.4.250, and new 16.2.52.250) give the same trouble

Thunderbolt in Divece Manager became available/visible, however "there are no driver of this device".

Any minds what can i do ?

Already tried new and old thunderbolt drivers. No result. Still cannot see Node in Windows.

When I power on the Windows and plug Node before chosen Win in boot menu, I can find "Thunderbolt" in Device Manager. But this device "There is no driver for this device" in description.

Maybe I should do something in Mac`s terminal before start windows ?

P.S. my proposal Is still actual. Please help

I'm using a 2015 iMac 5K 27" + PowerColor Devil Box, (GTX 1080), and I'm getting the same errors while trying to update my Devil Box. I realize the Node and Devil Box are different, but it is the same Thunderbolt 2 -> Thunderbolt 3 adapter, and it's giving BootCamp the same errors.

So, you think, thats impossible to use Node /Box in Devices with TB/TB2 ?

It's not impossible... @itsage has done it with the Node. It just looks like that the Thunderbolt firmware update utility can't see the eGPU in order to update it.

In theory, if it was updated, then you'd be able to see and test it. I don't have any Thunderbolt 3 PCs to update it from, though.

I've been emailing PowerColor support, but they just told me to install AMD XConnect... Which doesn't do anything except tell me "No AMD hardware installed".

From what I understand, it's got a LOT to do with the fact that these eGPUs are shipping with a firmware that doesn't work out-of-the-box with BootCamp, and the firmware can't be updated over BootCamp using Thunderbolt 2 -> Thunderbolt 3 to the new firmware, because of that.

This is why I suggest doing your best to find access to a Thunderbolt 3 PC that you can update your eGPU firmware on, and then test on your Thunderbolt 2 -> Thunderbolt 3 adapter.

On this note, I may be exchanging the 2015 iMac 5K 27" tomorrow for the 2016 non-TouchBar MacBook Pro 13". Will update if I do, and the results that follow.

Buying solution have in mind that u will not to do this.

P.S. AkiTio still sleep...

Update: can someone  give a link to Thunderbolt driver for 2013 mid MBA for Win. Suppose its the main problem. In Mac OS I see Node and 1080 on it. Its ok (no Driver, but I see it). In windows - nothing. Something with Thunderbolt driver.

You need to find friend with Thunderbolt 3 laptop to update Node firmware on it, after that you will have working Node IMO!

Hi @natasha, have you tried installing the video card in the node? I have a node, I did NOT update the firmware, but I was able to get it working in MacOS and Windows.

I didn't try the node without a video card. But when I tried it with a video card, it worked in MacOS straight away using @goalque's script. Didn't need anything else.

Hi. Sure, as I said before: with installed card or not - doesn't see Node in Win.  With card - black screen, but Win launch (can listen keyword sounds). Without - simple Win launch with active Thunderbolt in Device Manager, but no Node available.

Are you talking about 2013 MBA

No I got it working on 2016 MBPTB and 2014 iMac.

You should note that in Windows, there's nothing I can see in device manager that shows the node is there. However it shows the graphics card in device manager. When I initially set it up the graphics card I had the "error 12" and couldn't get it to work.

To get around the black screen problem then you should read this. Follow the instructions in goalque's post there, this worked for me and maybe the key to solving your problem.

If I understood you right, I should launch Win with plugin in Node + video card with active internal graphic (to solve problem with black screen). If Win launch with plugged nod, I can decrease amount of reason of fails. Thank you. I`ll type soon.

Not exactly. In order to be able to boot up Windows with everything plugged in you need to run apple_set_os.efi first. Goalque's post tells you the easiest method I've seen to do this. Once you do that, Windows should boot with everything plugged in, and then hopefully it will detect everything and put everything in the right place when it starts.

Update:

I instaled driver for 1080 via TeamViewer. Its ok. Driver UP, 1080 detected in Win.

But still black screen in Win (when launch with plugged Node) - there are no any display in Device Manager. Only 1080 in Device Manager  - "work correct". Is It still needed update node or another step ?

Thank you

Yes you need to update the Node Firmware on Thunderbolt 3 laptop or skull canyon for example!

For example you can order for Amazon and return it, but the best way is to have a friend!

Many users can't update the Node or other eGPU Thunerbolt 3 device with TB3-TB2 adapter!

@Natasha you can always contact AKiTiO support. I’m sure if you ship the board to AKiTiO they can flash it and ship it back to you.

Just speaking with AkiTio support:

"The only files that I can provide are those on our website at  https://www.akitio.com/firmware/node-firmware  but again, unless this is an early test sample, your Node should already have the latest firmware version. The fact that your Mac could see the Node confirms this, as with the old firmware, this would not be possible."

So, I can make an opinion, that I needn`t to update my Node....and again - stone wall (((

P.S. I bought it in China (not direct via taabao), so i cant just move it to them - its quite difficult to send such device in Russia. And more difficult to send it back in USA/China

Can you take a screenshot of the Thunderbolt section within System Information in macOS? I can compare it to the firmware version on my AKiTiO Node to confirm whether you’d need the update.

Writing your from my old 2013 MBA with Node (1080  inside) WIN 10 and ....external monitor.

Yeap, its work without any dancing with the rain - only setuped 1080 driver in Windows via TeamViewer.

However, internal MBA`s screen still dark. How can i solve this ?

Check your device manager and see if you have Intel Iris Pro in display adapters.
You probably are missing iGPU drivers.
