Hi All

Just got the Gigabyte Gaming Box 580
I tried to run it via TB3 to a MacBook Pro 2016 with Davinci Resolve to improve the render times /timeline performance
To my surprice the performance was worse then the interated graphics (460)

Any ideas / suggestions

Notes:
1. the cable that came with the box  runs at 40GB /s
a cable bought on amazon (1m) only show 20GB/s
 - so beware of cables quality

2. a previous post her talks about a second firmware for the box that throtles the usb ports for full performance - is there a way to check this on a Mac?

any ideas would be helpful

cheers M

yeah I would return that.

the Blackmagic eGPU is way better and it made by the same people that make DaVinci resolve.

I have a macbook pro 2016 with a radeon pro 455 2gb works perfectly with the blackmagic eGPU.

I get around 3x the performance of my dGPU (560) with the GIGABYTE eGPU RX 580 on my 15" MBP.

Geekbench results are a little over ~120000, while the 560 is a little over ~40000.

I bought the USB-C cable from Apple -- it is a bit longer (0.8m) and works well.

the cable quality matters.

There shouldn't be any significant difference between Blackmagic eGPU and gigabyte enclosure. The only thing that matters is what  graphic card do you have , cable, and the software.

can you try running unigin valley or some other software to make sure that your graphic card is connected and  working well.

Hi there i am new to the egpu scene.

I have a MBP 13 2015 on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65). I connected through the official apple tb3/tb2 adapter a Gigabyte Gaming Box RX 580 after running the script. My system sees the TB connection and recognises the Gaming Box under thunderbolt connections but do not see the card. The script run cleanly and i double checked everything is as it should be. I tried both an apple tb cable and a cable matters tb2 cable with the same results.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks
