Hi folks,

This is my first post on here, I've just purchased a Akitio Node 3 with a 6Gb GTX 1060.

I'm wanting to run the internal display on my mac through thunderbolt 1 back through via the Node 3, I'm just a little
lost with the HDMI dummy plug, do only certain things not work such as Open GL applications if I don't
use this dummy plug on the GTX1060 or will nothing mirror back to the internal mac screen without it?

I'm aware of using the appropriate scripts etc to get this to work.

Cheers!
Nick

Just a heads - there are no Nvidia web drivers for Mojave yet so I hope you are still on High Sierra. I bought a Headless adapter but found it too much faffing to use.

If you are only using macOS I'd go for an AMD card, it you are using bootcamp you shouldn't need the headless adapter.

To add to this, my experience with a TB1 eGPU agrees with the chart from this post which basically says there's a ~30% performance decrease with the internal display at my resolution (1280x800). A 30% decrease isn't too bad but if you're planning on running at a higher internal resolution than that, performance will drop off even more.
