I currently have a Akitio Thunder 2 and I use a Tupperware with a handle on the lid. It's super annoying to carry so, I'm looking for a computer bag that would hold both my laptop and the t2. I like to bring my eGPU to work and then take it home for some gaming.

That got me thinking, what is everyone else using for taking their eGPU with them?

Current Build:
15" MacBook Pro (mid 2014) + MSI AERO GTX1060 6GB+ Akitio Thunder2 (Case Mod) + Dell DA-2 + EFI Hybrid v1.0.3. + OSX 10.13.6 + Win 10

☞ 3D Printed High Air Flow front cover for Akitio Thunder 2/3 Enclosure

2014 15" MacBook Pro (GT750M) [4th,4C,H] + GTX 1060 @ 16Gbps-TB2 (AKiTiO Thunder2) + macOS 10.13.3 & Win10 [build link]

Do you have any modifications to the Thunder2?

Since I had to add an additional power supply and the graphics card wouldn't fit I made my own case out of laser cut and bent acrylic. I have an integrated handle and USB hub included. It doesn't fit into a bag, but it's pretty easy to carry around.

Only mod so far is Dual Fans. It's still the same form factor. Going to try to keep it that way to keep it super portable.

Cool set-up.

Try looking for those travel bags for body wash and shampoo.

You should be able to find one roughly the correct size.

Nice. Looks like Gigabyte is doing it right with their eGPUs! Looks like a camera small bag would be perfect.

Handily - as stated, the Aorus Gaming Box comes with a bag and easily stows in carry on, takes up a bout the size of a pair of shoes, so you probably have to do with a few less options while traveling.

However, the new Lenovo eGPU that's less than an inch thick might become the ultimate portable companion.  The GTX1050 is a bit meh, but still vastly superior to Intel iGPU options, even the Iris graphics in the MBP I own.  Now we are getting into true portable options for eGPU.

What's the use case for a portable eGPU as opposed to an actual gaming laptop (or workstation, etc.)?

What's the use case for a portable eGPU as opposed to an actual gaming laptop (or workstation, etc.)?

I have a 2014 15″ MacBook Pro that I use for work at the office and I have an eGPU to boost the performance a bit. When I come home, I bring my eGPU and laptop with me for some gaming or if I have to work from home.

I prefer a mac for work and getting a new MBP is going to cost an arm and a leg. So for the time being, this has to be my work and play machine. eGPU solves that.

That’s my personal reason at least.

I don't want to bother with multiple computers and extra drives or other methods for transferring data. I use my MacBook Pro for school/travel and when I get home it gets docked and becomes a desktop with a little more oomph for gaming. I'm not using a gaming laptop because I prefer macOS to windows for everything but gaming.
