I need help with a Sapphire Gearbox and some general information
I just created this account because I was really interested in some information posted in this forum and would love to know more about some of these
I read everything I could find surrounding the H2D "Problem" even though I am not sure I understood everything.
So here is my situation:
Even though I work in the IT-Business, I am not experienced enough to understand everything that is happening here with thunderbold eGPU boxes, drivers and firmware.
I got a Sapphire Gearbox that I wanted to check for problems and or test for some basic operations like playing some games or using some graphic programs.
So after some time I found the review from itsage for the Gearbox and read the first time about the H2D Bandwith "issue". As far as I understood it, other box manufacturers came out with some firmware update to solve this issue. Sadly Sapphire has nothing for this problem. So my question is, can I do something to "fix" this problem with the sapphire gearbox?
I ran the AIDA64 gpgpu test on a DELL XPS 15 9570 and a Sapphire Pulse RX50 and got a score of 800MB/s (??).
I would really like to give this box a chance because I have people asking me about it.
Does sapphire neeed to release a firmware update or can I do some kind of workarround for this problem.
Thank you for the great information in this forum! Maybe someone can help me out, thanks!
@captchadoesntwork Thunderbolt 3 eGPU firmware is specific to each enclosure. The vendors have to get them approved by Intel. I reached out to Sapphire prior to my review of the Gearbox in hope there's something in the works. Unfortunately I never heard from them. There's no workarounds. It's best to return and buy something else with full H2D speed firmware.
thanks for the answer! I am asking because I maybe have some influence to get sapphire to acknowledge the need of this firmware update.
Thanks for clarifying! I will write in this forum again if I have news about something.
Thanks for the help!
